Agree...the more I test drove each...the IS-F felt weird...strange "lag", when you get on it...gearing...engine...dunno?
Also, felt cheap and so stereotypical "Japanese"...shiny cheap plastic "bling-bling"...does it know what it want to be...a small cramped luxury sedan or a high powered sports sedan?

I will go with the M3 ...again, (have a coupe)...torn between the 'vert & sedan...?
I can see, someday...when F.I. is all there is, ho-hum...that these cars will be really desirable at places like Mecum & Barrett-Jackson.
Maybe not appreciate, but hold their value real, real well.

Tremendous thread. Recently sold my impressive 08 IS-F after looking for a change. Leasing an M3 next week. Will post impressions soon.
Btw, 2012 IS-F is slated to have even further suspension and wheel upgrades. Nice to see Lexus continually evolve this car!

The IS-F has a much harsher ride than an M3, although I am not sure if it is adjustable in an IS-F. The M3 requires the tech package with EDC.

The Lexus is better equiped for the money, and a slightly smaller cabin. I don't think there is an MT IS-F either.

Just to throw something in there. I saw a Boss 302 this past couple of days at NJMP and it sounds absolutely fantastic when opened up!
I saw two Lexus IS-F at Road America last weekend. They held with the pack of Porsche & BMWs. Just not my car.

Hi bimmerbabe69;
see that your OP had similar concerns as you can read in this thread, that I had.
Seems that there was a bit of interest in this comparison and the overall consensus is not surprising, being as this is a BMW M3 site.
But I can tell you for a fact...if it is maximum "wetness", or some kind of automotive orgasm you are after...the M3 will deliver. It will "pin you back" & deliver that heart pounding "thrust" you so desire

BTW, I am in Las Vegas too.
Did you STEAL my "69" handle?
Mine refers to the year I was 16.
I think yours refers to something entirely different and far more entertaining!

BTW, boys...now that i have decided on the M3 over the IS-F...
and having owned a regular 3 series...well, someone on another forum said the M3 is FAR better built, almost like custom hand built, compared to mass produced 328's & 335's, that the "M" division builds them seperatly, apart from the other cars and takes more care & special pride in the M's.
So they last longer and are less buggy...
Any truth to any of this?

I drove the '12 BMW M3 and the '12 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG on the track today back-to-back (both automatic transmissions) - just got home. While both are amazing vehicles, and the power of the MB was impressive, my nod goes to the BMW as it feels more "connected" with the driver. I still get chills with the high-revving V8 engine...

The IS-F is a distant third in my book.

It was a private media event for journalists at California Speedway. I am not sure if it had the LSD, but it felt like it (it hooked up well).

YES...I would say so. I think there may be more pride of workmanship for the M3, better parts and I believe, not sure, the the M3 is built in a different shop than all other BMW's?
Your M3 should last longer and be less troublesome than other BMW models.

BTW, it was great meeting you in the casino the other day. You were funny, witty(on the game) , and struck me as quite intelligent. You definitely are one "hot" dish.
You are no longer a "blonde' as you 1st described?
You dark brown hair does look fantastic with your green eyes, and i would not have expected you were part Spanish, you looked mostly Asian to me?
Why are you "dealing"?
You could easily be a "supermodel;" .

You have a fun job, but I'm sure you know that! I was enjoying reading your review of the LFA. I also noticed that it has similar lines as did my Nissan 300 ZX 2+2 when viewed by the side and front. I guess that is where the similarities end, but I really liked that car back in the day.

Thank you 16n69, thought you were a hunk, not bad for 58

So you think the M3 is far more reliable than other BMW models?
I love the looks of it, and I like NA engines better than FI ones.
I want the car for 200k, think it will cost a fortune after warranty?

That is why I was considering the Lexus "F", 'cause I was told that it could easily see 200k without much repair?
But i dunno,like German cars, though...but headaches & repair shop nightmares i don't need

I traded in my 09 IS-F for an M3. The lexus was just not that good. It was unrefined and has many annoying features. The suspension was just awful and the touch nav was irritating. It looked and felt cheap.

I think it' largely comes down to the proper maintenance. Surely Lexus has had, despite some recent recall attention, a great history of reliability. But I'm not sure you should entirely send you one way or another. I did very much enjoy Lexus for the past 12 years, leading up to my IS-F. They are very solid and the customer service out of this world, even replacing an engine for me that was out of warranty. They're that good. I'm scheduled to get my first BMW Monday, so I can't fairly compare. But even the ordering process of my car, hasn't been nearly as customer friendly as my dealings with Lexus. I'm hoping that will change.

Fulfilling is an interesting word... but it doesn't really hit the nail on the head. I'd say "rewarding" when people enjoy my story.

I've been doing it for about five years.

BTW, Lexus is lending me a '12 IS-F for a week. I'll let you know how it goes.

Could it be both rewarding and fulfilling? Or do you seek more? Wow, further suspension and wheel tweaks on the 12, please keep us posted! Ever post at my.is ? I'm a senior mod over there, love to have ya!

Found 2 guys, thru casino friends & contacts...one w/2011 Lexus IS-F...and another w/2011 BMW E90 M3 DCT.
Both, lightly "track" the cars and both wanted to check each others out and LET ME do it, too!
We would have went to the LV motor Speedway on public track day...but i think they have been canceled due to this weekends tragic race accident( R.I.P. Dan Wheldon...)
Maybe in some time?
