air bag reset

Surely one of you experts knows how to reset the air bag warning light! I had to do a little window work (window came out of its track - pita!) and unhooked the door airbag connection, hence the air bag light. Yes, I know I was supposed to disconnect the battery first, but in doing that I couldn't adjust the window position.
Let me know if any of you knows how to do this.

Only way to reset it is with a Peake SRS reset tool. Unfortunately, you can't get creative with a paperclip like you can to reset the oil service lights. You can try going to an independent shop that specializes in BMWs (or Euro cars in general), and they should have the Peake tool. Otherwise, you're stuck going to the dealer, who may or may not charge you to reset it depending on their daily mood.

Bummer! On top of everything else, I screwed my window tint up in the process!

Well, the first time I tried to fix it, I didn't get the window back in the track closest to the front of the car and of course, it broke the glides again when I tried to lower the window to get it back in position. I finally got it in each track, got the window positioned tightly in place so it wouldn't leak and that's where it will stay until I can get a professional to look at. It's totally a PITA! Guess I'm not cut out for that kind of work. The tint looks so bad! No need to fix that until the window is totally functional.

Yeah, replacing the microfilter is a piece of cake compared to the window fix.

Google Peake reset tool, it connects to the 20 pin connection under the hood and alows you to reset the SRS (airbag) system

Thanks for searching the forums too

A Modis will do it,
Also a mt2500 with the correct key

in short... any obd2 scanner that handles srs will do it for you...

My opinion is to stay away from the peak tools as they are specific for bmw only,

If you get your self a proper scan tool you will be able to do almost every car,
most of the scanners that do srs will also do abs, the communication protocol for abs is simular to.. while the general obd2 codes differ from

altho now looking at the price difference... its probably just eazyer to get a peak tool... they are quite a bit cheaper then the real tools

I would recommend calling around to find a shop that will reset it for you. No need to haul off and buy a tool that costs over $100 just to turn a warning light off. I'm sure many independent shops will either do it for free or next to nothing.

Both the indy shops in my area want half an hour of labor to reset. So thats 50 to check it and 50 when I fix the problem. I'll just wait till I find a local with one

This is the kind of thing the BMW car club is great for. There are a few guys around town who have the Peake SRS tool, that might be worth exploring.

Yeah, when I had to reset mine, I just found another BMWCCA member with the tool and met up with him.
