Hell all!

I'm new to the forum and new to BMW. I just bought a 1998 (correction 19990 328is with 40,400 original miles from Mini of Alexandria. This care must have been babied, because it is cleaner than my newish Subaru. It is a manual, with a CD changer and the M package, not so sure what that is though.

I called the previous service department and they told me that it recently had its real control arms replaced as well as a coolant system flush. During the test drive, everything felt tight and almost new. Is there anything else I should be looking for?

I've attached some pics.

So far I am very happy with this car and am looking forward to picking it up tomorrow.

At that mileage, you should be pretty well off regarding many of the common maintenance items. It's usually between 75-100k miles when you need to overhaul a number of key items (cooling system, suspension), so you've got some time. I'd look into flushing your brake and power steering systems. Your transmission and differential fluid have probably never been changed, so I'd do that, too. It's all easy work if you're handy with a wrench.

Nice looking car! Welcome aboard.

Dry rotted rubber...

bushings and such

then oils make sure they look good and everything

with that little miles it means it wasnt driven toooo much which means it was stored

good find though.

Glass headlights+
M3 side skirts and front bumper+
Manual+
Black interior+
40k miles +

Stick around and read up on the mantinece of these cars

With only 40k you have a while to go until you need to be slightly concearned... but dont forget about oils and such

Nice find! As mentioned you're good for now on maintainence, but if I were you, I'd make a little pot fund for things that *could* happen, or for the really cool ZKW headlights. I'm going to assume this is more of a toy then a DD for you, so make sure you take good care of her.

By the way. I am just a tad jealous

Amazingly low miles for the year. Hundreds of thousand miles left in it.

Beautiful car. Make sure all the fluids are new (or new enough) and you'll be all set.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm picking it up in about an hour and can't wait. All I have to do is find a tape to play in the cassette player!

Ha ha!

I took it for a little ride this evening and I am very impressed. Everything feels great with the car. I'll be taking it to a reputable mechanic in the area soon for a once over to see if there is anything major that needs to be done.

So far I'm loving it!

Good, keep great care of it and she will love you back. More like a step parent love though, not a brotherly love.

I took her out yesterday for a drive on some back roads and am really impressed by the balance and impeccable road manners of this machine. This might just be me, but I did notice a bit of "sway" inside the cabin for me and the passenger when going over bumps and ruts in the roads. It felt as if the suspension was trying to correct for road imperfections. The car felt rock solid around turns and curves though. Is that just the normal handling characteristic of the car?

It's stiff. If it has any kind of aftermarket suspension (Which I doubt) It will skid out over bumps in corners. That's just the handling characteristics of any stiff car.
