BMW Does NOT Make Trucks!!

From this: http://boston.craigslist.org/nos/pts/2473122526.html

Comes this: "A few scratches but overall great looking rims, would look awsome on a BMW truck."

Attention world: BMW does NOT make a truck. A Chevy Tahoe is not a truck. A Ford Explorer is not a truck. A Kia Sorento is not a truck. A Nissan Xterra is not a truck. An X3/X5 is not a truck**. Please stop calling SUVs trucks!!!

/rant... Just had to clear that up. Thanks for reading.

**I realize BMW also does not produce an actual SUV; rather they make an SAV (sport activity vehicle)...

I call it a truck. Folks around here call it a truck. *shrugs*. My and my friends were wondering if there were any off-road courses around here in NC to see how far I can get the X3; the most I've done in the X3 is an ATV trail in western VA.

SUVs used be built on truck frames which is one of the reasons that manufacturers started making them as they didn't have to meet federal mileage standards and didn't drag down the manufacturer's average MPG rating.

Maybe that's why some people call them trucks.

According to the EPA, it IS a truck. EPA aside, the Tahoe, the X-terra, and until recently the Explorer, are basically pick-up trucks with covered beds.

Still, its funny to hear my neighbor refer to her Rav-4 as a truck.

There are several definitions of a truck.

One is the EPA definition. Some car companies have called what most people call a car, a truck. Examples include the Chrysler PT Cruiser and the Saab 9-3 SportCombi (wagon). These get much better gas mileage than real trucks so they help the statistics.

Another is an ordinary person's definition of a truck. This might be something bigger and taller. For some people, the X5 looks like a truck. Not a pickup truck but maybe a rugged delivery van.

A similar thing happens with sports cars. What is a sports car? It is a Porsche? Probably, there's no argument. How about a two door Hyundai? Or is that an ordinary car that looks sporty?

I've heard people insist that the BMW X3 is a SAV, not a SUV. SAV is just a BMW marketing term. Why not claim that the BMW X trucks are the only SAVs built?
