Arguably, many BMW models have a similar shape and seem at first glance to differ only in size. (Don't get me wrong, I like them all!) But the Z models are so distinctive, you don't have to look twice to guess what they are. I cannot imagine loving another car as much as I love my Roadster, its looks, handling and fun factor would be very difficult to beat! IMO.

I second your opinon on this! Though I still have my love for MG's and Alfa's from growing up with a few while helping my father maintain and restore them. Good times then and now...he loves to ride and drive the Z when we get to see each other.

Currently I have 122,598 on my 2003 2.5 Z4. This car is my daily driver and gets a pretty decent commute at about 164 miles per day. Average about 29.4 (according to the car's computer) for gas mileage and I have had the usual repairs at this point.

1) Water pump
2) Aux Fan
3) Thermostat
4) Hoses
5) Pulley
6) DISA
7) Expansion tank
8) Washer fluid sensor (o-ring was leaking)

Recently my driver's side door lock started giving me trouble and I suspect the acctuator may be going.

Cheers,
Donovan

'00 MRdstr purchased in 2003 with only 7k on it. I think it was a victim of a divorce since it took forever to get a title and the master key. Their loss, my benefit....

It now has ~46k, but doesn't wander far from home. My commute is only 3 miles to work (I sometimes have to drive a couple extra miles to make sure it gets to tempurature). It does not come out when there is rain/snow forecasted or if the roads are not dry and clear of ice. I do drive in the winter unlike some in snow country. The one rule is that if the sun is shining the top must be down. Driving at 22*F can be painful on the right (yes the right) earlobe - must be something about the airflow over/around the hoops behind my head.

Only regular maintenance so far. I am getting some odd intermittant warning lights that might indicate a bad speed sensor on one of the wheels.

I just hit 71000 miles on my 2004 Z4. I replaced the brakes at 70,000 miles and I beleive it's time for new springs.

Mein Auto: M Roadster
O8 M Roadster bought 2/11 with 14k - now has 25k. It's my daily driver and my 3rd Z. Had one Z3, and a precious 03 2.5 Z4. All were daily drivers and only cars. My last Z was traded in at 125k and still ran fine, but had an oil leak from the oil filter block and seemed to always burn oil. I replaced all the usual stuff on that car: battery, DISA valve, CPS, steering column, conv top motor, FCABS, had wheels straightened many times and traded it with Beyerns, belts, low dust brakes(never replaced rotors), DTML valve, valve cover gasket, plugs, windshield. Thats just what I remember. One thing, never had a cooling system issue and all parts where original, except fluids. M Roadster has had no problems but one: the damn clear coat peeling of the factory M wheels. Dealer repaired them nicely for free, but 3 weeks later the same issue is starting to happen on the newly painted wheels. Considered aftermarket wheels, but none of them look as good on the car as the wheels it comes with IMHO. So, once it gets bad enough that someone can notice but me, I'll probably get them refinished by Wheel Collision Center in Bath PA in there "hyper silver" powder coat which is a bright silver.

Oh man that is a shame but it served you very well considering all the use though If only that door is acting up and none of your fuses for the central locking system are blowing not the other doors giving trouble it has to be this. Not sure about the part for your car but the lock actuator for my E36 is $166.92 CAD and you could easily install it yourself once you buy some new door panel clips (they tend to get messed up after being removed). You should do it and make a DIY tutorial topic

I truly don't know how you do it! My car isn't even an "M" model and I have a problem not driving it. Never mind that I might have no where to go, it's so much fun taking long drives just to leave the world behind. But not accruing much mileage seems to be the norm for these cars, according to the service manager at my dealership. I just can't understand how you can resist driving such a fun car all around.

'96 328i 154K '99 Z3 105K

our '96 328i was purchased in '98 with 40K. now 154K It still drives great although my wife drives it now so speed stays in double digits. Complete costs (all maintanence but gas) $14K to date. This includes a lower front bumper replace & paint.
Latest repair: 1 wheel bearing.
Only once has it let me down- radiator top cracked (a problem with this time period).

'99 Z3 purchased in '07 with 70K. now 105K about $2k in maintenance to date. $600 when I bought it for service 2 items. $440 for wheel straight & paint (previous owner), rear shocks $339 (I think from chaining it down in cross country transport), $450 front tie rods, RF ball joint, $300 valve cover gasket.

email me if you're interested in maintenance records gmbrown_01@hotmail.com
