Engine noise when idle

Hey everyone. I have had my X3 for almost 10 days now. love everything about it but I am curious about one thing. When I start the car and I am in park there seems to be a subtle ticking type noise coming from the engine. With the door shut and you inside the car you cant hear it but you can certainly hear it from the outside. Once you press the gas it goes away.

Does anyone else know if this is normal?

These N55 motors use direct infection tied to a HPFP (high pressure fuel pump), both of which may be contributing to the sound you hear. These motors definitely sound different that a standard fuel injection engine that most are used to hearing. I wouldn't sweat it too much, enjoy the vehicle, and if by chance the noise gets worse or is present in other situations then have the dealer look at it for piece of mind.

try the sound dampening plugs? (look to other threads, I know this is pretty common)
