Go to realoem.com and cross reference part numbers for both cars. If you go used, replace the gasket.

Buy the gasket from the dealer. It's about $7. Actually, buy 2 OFH gaskets! Why? As this is probably your first go at replacing said gasket there's a chance you'll ding the gasket during assembly!! Buy 2 OFHGs.

Also, when you disassemble the OFH use a piece of a cardboard box and insert each bolt in its relative position through the cardboard. Why? The bolts are of differing lengths and must be reinstalled in the correct holes. Do not over-torque the bolts? Why? The bolts are steel but the block is aluminum.

Part number for the oil filter housing is 11421713838, and here are all the vehicles it's found on: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...&q=11421713838.

A new one from BMW will run around $200, and for used parts, you might also take a look at www.autobahnparts.com, www.bmrparts.com, and www.atleuro.com.

Atlanta European has that housing for $59 with free shipping (might make for good bargaining with your parting out guy): http://atleuro.com/products/r41722-oil-filter-adapter.
