South Florida Dealerships - ED

Does anyone have recommendations on South Florida dealerships who may be competitive on ED?

So far best deals I have been offered are $800 above ED invoice plus $199.50 doc fee all the way up in Atlanta, or $800 with no doc fee from a CA dealer offering ED+PCD.

1) I'm sure you understand that there is NO extra charge for PCD or ED + PCD.

2) Make sure you know what licensing (registration) fees will be.

I understand there is no extra charge for PCD, but I prefer delivery at closest location to Miami. I'd rather not drive 10 hours without radar or laser jammers, and the installer is in Palm Beach.

I thought registration fees are passthrough. Are you saying they also make margin there?

Not going to do better than those IMHO. FL allows a higher doc fee. Locally I got $1000 over invoice with $389 doc. One dealership wanted $489 doc fee.

Why would I take those offers? Could not afford time/ travel to atl or pcd. Also there was some question lemon law issues. CA does have better lemon than FL but not sure what process would be.

Lemon laws would not be an issue for me, since I keep my Florida cars registered at my address in Georgia.

- Maybe, a dealer can ship a car to you. But, I wouldn't wanna do it

- Yes. They do (not all) try to make margin on registration fees by showing estimated registration fees. well, its easy to find out exact reg. fees from DMV and i would accept a ballpark figure.

Interesting, because when I bought my Lexus, the dealer overestimated the fees, but then refunded the excess once the registration was done. So there was no margin there.

Doc fees in FL are a profit source for sure.

I am not aware of dealers in South FL as I live in Tampa and I would recommend Tom Swackhammer at Fields BMW, Lakeland FL. 863-816-1234.

Braman Miami told me that the price of the European Delivery is 7% of MSRP - flat price from BMW NA that they have no control over.

The salesman looked like this.

I got my ED 550i at South Motors in Miami. I had a most knowledgeable CA and reasonable about negotiating a fair price.

What did you pay above invoice? Was it close to or better than the $999.50 I am being offered which includes the doc fee?

I paid $1,750. At the time, the F10 was coming out and, although I could have gotten a better price elsewhere, I already had a relationship with South Motors that I valued and wanted to maintain. I made the offer, and they accepted it. Whatever I paid over the lowest price at the time is too small a premium for staying with a dealer that appreciates my business and treats me well when going to have the car serviced etc.

I bought my BMW from Alan Melnick, the Internet sales manager at Braman Motorcars in Palm Beach,

I was very happy with him and the dealership in general. I did the whole deal over the phone and via email. We flew to Palm Beach to pick up the car, Alan picked us up at the airport and drove us to the dealership. We stayed on Florida a few weeks and then flew back and had the car shipped to NY, Very positive experience and no hassles.

This is the same dealership that I mentioned above. Both the airport and the dealership are in the City of West Palm Beach. Braman also has BMW dealerships in Ft. Lauderdale and Jupiter, Florida.

I also buy from South Motors, I've had a 20 year realtionship, and I always negotiate a fair deal, on the F10 is invoice plus $1000, plus the $599 dealer fee, plus 0.00015 markup on MF. I could pressure for a better deal, but that would be counting pennies. A deal always has to be win win if you want a long term relationship, IMO

Can someone explain ED? Thought it was for someone taking delivery in Europe- but evidently not if you're picking it up in Florida.

You buy or lease your F10 at your local dealer, you pick it up in Germany, you drive around Europe, then you give it back to BMW, it is shipped to the U.S., and then your F10 is redelivered to you at your local dealer.

Although I have yet to do an ED, I have read that there are benefits. My impression, however, is that the primary reason one would do the ED is for the experience.

Amendment: After reading subsequent posts on this thread, it looks like there is more of an emphasis on the financial benefits than I had thought from reading posts on other threads.

The MSRP and Invoice of European Delivery cars is 7% below the US MSRP and Invoice. So you can save an extra $5000 on the purchase price.

Some people do this as a way to have a nice European vacation where they can drive their car in Europe.

Some of us who have business operations in Europe just do it as a way of capturing the discount, and we pick the car up on a business trip, just spend half a day receiving the car, driving it across town to the drop off point, and then head back home.

So in my instance, I will pick a Euro Delivery date that coincides with my monthly trip to visit our European operations, and I will make a side trip to Munich for 1 day to receive and drop off the car. So this way it costs me a couple of hundred dollars on a domestic european flight, to save $5000.

One of my friends does the same thing with Mercedes European Delivery but he doesn't even go over, he just has one of his family members in Europe pick up the car for him and drop it at the distribution point.

7% saving is BS. 11-12% is the way to go and anyone spending quality time on this forum should not settle down for less than 11% off US MSRP, Max $1000 over invoice.
