Question '92 E36 MAF Compatability

I am looking for a MAF for my '92 E36...I have ordered two now and neither one of them would fit the plug to plug it in. Everyone I received had a 4 prong plug and mine has 6...it wont even slip in to screw it down. Someone said they changed body styles halfway through '92 and it requires a special MAF...why would they change engine components for a body style change? Anyone know what MAF I need and where to find it other than the delaer?

My suggestion would be to find the assembly date of your car (month & year) located on the ID tag in the door jam, then enter all relevant info into RealOEM.com and get the correct part number. If they changed the design partway through the model year, entering the exact production date of your car should give you the correct part.

I have a 92 MAF. .I'll check later on to see how many prongs it has. My prod. date was 4/92. So it was before the cutoff in June. You'd need to replace the screens at both ends, but it's perfectly functional.

PM me an offer.

The MAF changed; I want to say around 8/92....the replacement for it is Bosch #0986280116.....this thing is expensive; it ranges from about $400-$600 which is ridiculous for this sensor. So I think I am just going to replace the screen on mine since it is pretty beaten up and give it a good cleaning. Just thought I would post the info I found for anyone looking in the future.
