Help Steering wheel vibration under braking??

Please Help just purchased a 71k X5 3.0d sport with bridgestone tyres 60% wear. Pressures are good and the wheels are now balanced. Between the speeds of 60 to 80 the steering wheel vibrates excessively under braking. Below 60 this does not happen!!! The discs look OK, on inspection II the pads were said to be OK. The car does not pull either way under braking and there does not seem to be unbalanced tyre wear. Is it possible there has been uneven tyre wear and now the tyres no matter how balanced they are will vibrate under braking? Should I buy two new front tyres to see if this illiminates the problem. Anybody any other solutions or similar experiences?

If it only happens while breaking then I'd say it's your breaks. I'm no expert though.

Vibration while braking at high speed.

It's been known that when you don't alternately tighten the lug nuts when installing the wheels, the brake rotors will have the tendency to warp. Warp rotors would cause the wheels to vibrate when braking at high speed. If this is the case, the fix to the problem is to have the rotors "turned" by a machine shop or, have the rotors replaced.

quite std issue - brake rotors are warped. People likely changed pads and left rotors for second round, turned/machined them or used cheap rotors and or metallic pads......not a good thing for BMWs - they like good quality rotors/pads and rotors last only one set of pads...
you can deal with it and replace rotors at next brake job but if it bothers you - do front brakes (rotors/pads)

Thank you for that advice I am having the front rotors and pads changed, by the sounds of other posts the rotors seem to last 20-40k due to the weight of the vehicle.

It did the trick, replaced front discs (rotors) and brake pads, vibration on steering wheel while braking from 70mph has gone
