Unlucky/Lucky Day!
Was in an unfortunate accident yesterday. Fellow ran a stop sign going +/-50 mph... Everyone walked away... Just wanted to applaud the BWM safety standards. Air bags (7) deployed and did their job. Also a kudos to BMW assist who were calling me almost instantly. Not sure I made sense to the assist people, as I was a little shaken up. The most important thing, no one was seriously injured. The car is a mess but I will replace it. Dreading having to deal with the insurance companies...hopefully it will go well.

Sorry to hear, but most important that no one got hurt. Kudos to the car for sacrificing itself to save you guys.

Jeez, just looking at that gives me chills. So happy to hear you're OK. At the end of the day you can alway just buy another car.

A BMW is the car I drive precisely because how much they protect their occupants in an accident. I experienced a crash in an E39 so I know what you are going through. Glad you are OK.

It might be painful to see your car like this, but it performed its job well by allowing you to walk away. Dealing with an auto insurance company is much preferred over dealing with your medical insurance. Glad all is well.

Looks from the photo like the Chevy pickup that got T-boned absorbed some of the impact. Imagine if it had not been between you and the rammer. Outcome could have been different. Glad no one was hurt. (Central State Grad and OKIE.)

You are correct. The Suburban took the direct hit. If it were not there, a much different outcome would have occurred... The fellow driving the pickup bent the steering wheel upon impact. Cant believe he didn't crack some ribs. It was amazing that no one was hurt, aside from a few scrapes and bruises.

This is one of the reasons I rationalized spending so much on a new car.
Damn you had the ferric 20" wheels too.

That must have been scary as hell.
Glad you and your family were protected and are safe. Good to see the F10 can take a hit. |

Glad everyone is ok. I was rear-ended on the interstate in my E60 and I was also very impressed with BMW assist. I was shaken up as well and also probably made no sense to them, but they knew exactly where I was, they called the police and tow truck for me, and stayed on the line until the police arrived and I said everything was ok.

A couple of other pics. One showing the wishbone suspension in several pieces. Actually snapped it in half. Tire was held to the vehicle by the brake cable. The other shows under the hood - looks ok. Hoping to receive a "totaled" appraisal from the insurance company. Not sure I'd feel comfortable back in the car, knowing all the sensors, air bags, suspension...were worked on.

If they fight you, make sure you insist on a COMPLETE tear down to catalog all the damage. With that kind of impact, you never know what is out of kilter, engine mounts, transmission mounts, etc.

I have an xdrive here because of the amount of snow we receive. My experience from growing up in Okla. was that we had an occasional snow, which melted in a day or two, of a few inches but the real problem was the occasional ice storm. I wouldn't get out on that ice with anything and if I still lived there, and did most/all of my driving there, I wouldn't spend the extra money for an xdrive.
