GBates,

Wonderful indeed that you were protected and safe, God bless. Your posting has definitely
built our confidence in the F10's capabilities.

Cars can be replaced. I'm so glad you were not injured. That is what is important.

Thanks everyone, for your thoughtful words. Insurance adjuster not able to look at car until Thursday. Hope they don't cause me any grief. Wife wanting me to look at the X5, not sure it's for me.

So many reasons not to get an X5. Tell your wife that it's near the end of it's product cycle and a new one will be out in about less than 2 years. The F10 is basically in it's infancy so you have 7 years before you're driving an old model.

Glad you're ok OP. Glad to see all the safety tech the Germans pride themselves on all come together and work.

Looks like a new 550i is in your future?

quick question: how fast was BMW Assist on the line with you after? After it senses a crash, does it automatically dial out?

However, BMW should offer a 535d xi. If they did, I would have gotten it over the X5.

Before I could get out of the car, BMW assist was on the line. Of course, I had to crawl over the console and out the passenger door. The fellow I spoke with was very professional and stayed on the line until I told him all was ok. Yes, I'm very much leaning towards another 550i. Fun car...

I didn't get the regal feeling in that thing that I do with the F10. It feels more like a truck, which obviously it is, but something about the interior and the trim and the way the doors close, just the overall feel of the thing. Maybe cause it's an SAV, CUV, what ever you want to call it and I really don't care for any of them, maybe because it's made in South Carolina, or maybe I was hung over that day. Something about it doesn't do it for me.

Tomorrow is the day for the insurance adjuster to finally have a look. Got my fingers crossed. I want her to look like this again.

I'm so sorry that happened. I talked to you a while back about how you liked your rims. So glad everyone is ok. It can be replaced. Good luck.

Yes. I believe I'll get another 550. Great car and fun to drive. My wife will be a little reluctant to get back in, but time will help heal this issue.

Making a whole bunch of inferences from the first photo, I'd say you had an angel riding shotgun that day.

Unless the impact spun him 180 degrees, it looks like the Silverado was coming at you when the red pickup T-boned him. If you had been just "that" much further back, I am guessing he could have been pushed far enough into your lane to hit you head on. Which could have been decidely ugly - lot of mass.

Glad to hear you are okay, and props to you for taking it so well. Make sure you buy a lottery ticket, just in case you're on a lucky streak.

Them's fightin' words!

Another way to look at it is the X5 is in the 6th year of it's cycle, so BMW is past the point of having the owners do their beta testing for them.

Yeah, that's logical. Unless they face plant with the new design, it's human nature to feel sad once the new version comes out.

Sooo.. Was it totaled? I would personally not want that car back. And if they decide to fix it you should get a sizable check for depreciation as your car would now be worth a lot less once you want to sell it

Adjuster took a look and decided the car needed to be taken to a body shop for further review. It is sitting at a BMW dealer, but they have no body shop. The tow truck arrived yesterday to haul it to the body shop and loaded up the wrong car (guess there was another wrecked 2011). So the waiting continues...getting a little frustrating. Yes, if they decide to repair I still will not keep it. Do you think I have a chance to recover this depreciation and the wrecked car factor? You are correct, if I would trade it in (once repaired) I'd take it in the shorts from a trade-in stand point.

I would not keep a car that has been in that severe of an accident. It no longer becomes about money. It's now worth it to take a monetary hit for piece of mind.

If they decide to fix it definitely file a diminished value claim. The process is not short or easy but worth it on a car of this caliber. Honestly just reall push your adjuster to total it and make sure he realizes that you will file for diminished value and hopefully he'll just total it

At the end of the day keep all this in perspective; it's just a car and money. Your extremely lucky to even be worrying about things like this! Good luck

Agreed. Most important thing is we are all ok. Money in this case is definitely low on the list. However, I'll keep your diminished value claim in my back pocket.
