color confusion...

OK, why does the m-sport carbon black metallic look like it has a blue hue to it and the sapphire black metallic looks straight pure black to me. I thought this was an F-up on their website but the earlier post on which one to pick confirmed to me that the carbon black appears blue and the sapphire black appears black?

so, ?

Try not to overanalyse the colour names......

It's not that the colours have changed over the years. Both Carbonschwarz and Saphirschwarz are old BMW colours and have been the same hue for years. Carbonschwarz is black with a blue hue when viewed at certain angles/lights. Saphirschwarz is just the metallic black found on non-M cars.

No great trickery, CarbonBlack has always been very dark Blue. Names don't mean a lot. Once I had a Subaru that was "Midnight Black" - it was very dark blue as well.

Carbon Black is basically a super dark blue. When sun shines on it, it has this amazing navy blue luster. At night or in dim situations, it's basically black.
