red BRAKE light on dash... ?

Today i was driving and all of a sudden a red "BRAKE" came on the dash bored. when my brakes get worn usually it would say "check brake linings" but this time its just a simple BRAKE sign.. what can it be from ?

This usually indicates the emergency brake is engaged...i would definitely get it checked!

no the emergency brake has a display of PARK BRAKE light on the cluster, right next to it.. its not that..

Hmm, I'm not sure then. Mine just has the "BRAKE" indicator for the emergency brake.

Thats really a tough one. The only thing i can think of is your brake fluid reservior may be a little low, but that should trigger an OBC message. That woulld also indicate a leak and a brake pedal going to the floor. I would take it to a dealer just to diagnose if no one else can chime in. Or disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to reinitialize the system, your choice. I would suggest the disconnect only if your brake pedal has positive pressure like it should. The "PARK BRAKE" light is a red display only. The "BRAKE" light can be amber or red depending on the severity at least on MY 2002. So if it's red it may be serious.
