dealer wants $500 to replace strut brace bracket
I apologize for posting this again I initially posted this in the DIY section but not getting any luck.
Strut brace is what the dealer calls it. The part I am talking about is the bar that goes form one strut to the other and it help to not let the body twist too much. I did find the part on a website below just want to make sure that this is the right one. I am also confused about what brace is the dealer talking about. The dealer also said that the bolts need to be replaced. ![]() http://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/s...modelYear=2005 http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...26amp%3Bhl%3D2 |

Sunny... you are getting great help with this over on 5series.net and they are giving you the correct info. In fact, the patience they are showing you when you can't even describe what the dealer wants to replace is pretty incredible for an Internet forum.
I'm not sure what you expect to learn by starting over.

Do everyone a favor and have the dealer point to the part that needs replaced then take a picture of it.

I'm gonna take a stab at what you are talking about... I guess I won't. I went back on your previous posts and found your link to a Dinan strut. Why don't you ask the Dinan people? The only strut brace I know around that area is P/N 51717064828.

I just called the dealer parts department he gave me two part numbers 51617046555 $49 and bracket 51617010593 $20.41. that is the same thing in this link. I want to thank everyone for their help. I am going tighten the bolts first to see if my noise goes away. My orignal broblem is that when I make a turn I hear a thud. This is why the dealer came up with this. It has been very hot here in Maryland 105 today as soon as it goes dowm I will mess with it and do an update.
Thank you again http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...160-dealer-wan... |

I just had the same problem. The bolts needed to be replaced. Not sure why this would happen or why it wasn't covered under extended warranty (it is covered under new warranty) but the first dealer wanted over $200 (with labor). Went to a different dealer and they called BMW and BMW paid for half the labor so it cost about $115. I did not need to have the plate thet the bolts connect to or the arms replaced. Problem is all gone now. There is a service bulletin about this. Do a Google search under "clunking" sound. That is how I found it.

Thank you I was hoping someone had experience with this. I will get the bolts and replace them as soon as the weather is a bit cooler. |

Just so you know, the bolts are under the dashboard and not easily accessible. That is why the labor was so high. They have to take everything apart. I think of the whole bill the bolts were something like $11 each (there are 4 of them). When I found the info about it on another board the person who posted said the dealer said they get these all the time!

on my car the bolts are under the cabin filter housing an I can get to them by removing the filter housing. |

Don't forget to torque them. 27nM or 20 ft/lbs.

You are correct, that is the service bulletin I was referring to. Although they say it's a rattle it is more like a thud or a clunk or almost even a dull bang.
