Rear Sunshade Broke!

It has been brutally hot in the Dallas area over the past few days...(23 straight days of 100F or higher). This has finally taken a toll on the two little pastic pieces that attach the rear sunshade to the metal levers that pull the shade up or down. The shade has retracted but I can still control the metal levers up or down.
Is this something relatively simple to fix or a situation where the entire assembly has to be replaced? Any help is appreciated.

You can definitely repair this yourself. It should be easy. You just need some plastic glue..or even something like crazy glue should work. You can open up the rear door panel. There are 3 screws that need to come out then the panel just pulls straight out because it is just held by clips.........there is a DIY on here from keif that shows how change the "bowden cable" that shows how to remove the door panels.

The little plastic piece can be split apart into two halfs. Once the door panel is off you will see the shade retracted. You can then grab the end of it and place it inbetween the plastic piece and glue it back together.

I have had to do this on one of my shades. Its really not that hard once you get the panel off

I was referring to the rear shade for the back window not the door shades. Any assistance or DIY tips is appreciated.

Mine broke too a while back. The dealer wants $1200 to fix it. I found this DIY on YouTube but haven't got around to do it since I got tint all around and don't use the shades that much anyway.

Here is the link, good luck.

No problem. Good luck and keep us posted.

Would be nice if you can create your own DIY video and post it

Broken Rear Sunblind Fixed!

I just want to report back that I have gotten my rear sunblind fixed! Thank you for suggesting the All German Auto Youtube video. It literally saved me hundreds of dollars compared to taking the car to stealership for repairs.

Although the product worked as advertised, I believe there is a little bit of exploitation on the part of All German Auto. Simple parts like that should not cost $119. But hey I can't complain, that's better than paying $1800 for OEM repair.

At any rate, you guys should know that the procedure outlined in the video is not a "one-size-fits-all" for every BMW. I don't know what BMW model that was used in the video but it sure wasn't 2007 750Li.
I made the mistake of following the installation procedure exactly as outlined in the video/manual. That made reattaching the blind to the control arm a bit difficult.
So my advice is this; if you have a 2007 750Li and you want to perform in-car repair, DO NOT attach the slider (the black plastic peice) to the control arm first as instructed in the manual! Instead attach the slider to the blind assembly first and then connect the slider to the control arm. It is much easier to secure the slider to the control arm with the supplied rivets than doing it the other way round. If you follow the procedure outlined in the manual, you will have a hard time putting back the screws that secure the control arm to the blind assembly.

Taking out the whole rear sunblind assembly from the car is probably the easiest way to perform the repair but who wants to go through all that?

Great! I think the price isn't that bad because it is not plastic so it won't break again, and if BMW was selling just the plastic part it would've probably be the same price if not more. I haven't got around doing mine because I don't use the shades since I got the tints all around. When it was working, putting up the shades didn't make the interior temperature any cooler.

Again, glad it worked out for you.

Thanks for the link. Mine broke a few days ago as well because of the high Texas heat in Houston. This internet thing is really cool and just might catch on in the future; I am always amazed at what you can find.

Ours is screwing up too. I'm getting it tinted all around today, so having heavy 2nd thoughts about spending the cash to repair. I probably won't do it, but may try to repair it myself.

Hi mine just broke. Don't know when, but I had the car valet last night and this afternoon my daughter notices the shade was hanging. Coincidence?

Anyway I emailed AGA, gave them the model 2006 750Li and I get a reply "All I would need is for you to look at the track and connect and see if it matches the one we advertize". Can't really tell since it broke in half, so, yours fit no problem right?

I want to order this right away, just want to be sure...

Thanks for your help...

When I ordered mine, I called AGA directly and the lady that took my call verified with their 'expert' that the slider would fit. Since your car is 2006 750Li, the slider should fit just like it did on mine.
Also be mindful that the slider will only fit into the sunblind assembly in one direction. So be sure to fit the slider into the blind assembly first before attaching it to the control arm with the rivets.
Good luck.

Hats off to All German Auto. I think they are entitled to make some money on this repair kit, just as money is made on the coolant weep hole fix.
