Thumbs up Thinking about getting an M coupe or Z3 coupe

Hi everyone.

I'm thinking about getting an M Coupe (2000-2002, if I can find one!) or a 2002 Z3 Coupe. Any suggestions or recommendations on what to look for? Any tips on where to locate one? How is the reliability over 100,000 miles?

Any input would be helpful. Thanks!

This should help for the M Coupe : http://listings.mcoupebuyersguide.com/
Reliability depends on the maintenance history: proof of maintenance history is a good sign.
Lack of maintenance history means you may be taking a chance; have the car inspected to reduce the risk.

Hey Jon

Great work on your site. Really amazing resource. I will be reading as much as I can over the coming months. Reading about how you got your ideal car after 6 years has inspired me to hold out for an 01 or 02 M Coupe.

Any reason that the 2002 is better than the 2001?

There are not really any differences at all between 01 and 02 M Coupes. Some "collectors" like to have the final year, but I don't think it makes any difference if you're going to drive it. It is definitely worth holding out to get exactly what you want. I know I'll have mine forever and will never have a regret about the one I picked.

Considering they made only 680 of these cars, and that there are absolutely no changes and they were produced for less than a year in total, I don't see any differences in long term values of the 01-02 cars.

Mein Auto: 2001 M roadster
I have a 2001 M roadster with 157k miles and it still runs great. It never had engine or transmission failures. Clutch was replaced at 156k. I love this car!

If you are looking for a Z3 coupe, I have very pristine one. I am at the point now where I think it is time to let it go. 2002 3.0i Dakar Yellow on Black with 15,330 miles. New Dunlop Direzza tires (literally put them on yesterday). Fully upgraded Stereo, full M interior. H&R Bilsteins on the front, Koni and TCKline Springs on the rear (just installed). I have too many mods on the car to list, but could put something together. Car was featured in the November 2003 edition of Bimmer Magazine. Only issue is the airbag light is on. If you would have an interest in the car let me know and I can get some more info on it and take pictures.

WTF!

That is probably the most awesome Z3 Coupe on the planet.

I will have to talk to the wife. I just bought another coupe.

Damn you and your bad timing!

Sorry man. I am hoping Jon can buy it so it stays in the family. I need to get rid of it but know that it is something that I will regret for the rest of my life. The car is too much stress.

I will have the wife look at it when she wakes up.
