Option 4M5 Leather Dash

I've been looking into this, and found pics. Also it turns out you can special order it in the US.

That looks great - maybe next order. That's one thing Jaguar does very well.

$2200 msrp. It's expensive because it's a BMW Individual option. In the UK it's on the menu and it's GBP 935.

Is there an additional Individual "set up" fee on top of that? I thought custom orders were an additional $5000 or so.

You're thinking of more expensive options like an extended leather interior in a custom hide (like Merino Extended Leather). Also Custom paint is $5500.

This pretty expensive for what it is, and it's not truly custom since it's on the regular option list in Europe.

I hate to say this , but I prefer the looks of the non-leather dash on the f10 .... even though I love the stitched dash on the last gen 6/m6 ................................

I prefer the leather dash. It looks much more tailored. The standard dash has very artificial looking crease lines.

This one reminds me of the cleaner look of the dash in the 7 series.

The other thing I would have liked is a suede finish headliner like in my Lexus, but I'm limiting my self to only one BMW Individual item.

I think leather dashes on BMWs in general look sweet and add some exclusivity and uniqueness to the car, since very few are ordered that way in the US. Go for it.

I'm sure it looks luxurious but since you don't sit on it or hold it in your hands not sure I get the point of a leather dash?

Well the same principle applies to the door panels and the center console which are lined in leather.

Are you sure about that? I thought the door panels (vertical part not where you rest your elbow) was leather look vinyl (leatherette)? The same material that is used on the base 528i.

BMW is also specific about what is leather for the 550i - "Dakota Leather upholstery and door trim (Leather includes seat surfaces, armrests in center console and doors, headrests for front seats and outer rear seats, and gear shift lever boot)". I know Mercedes always used to do seating surfaces only with their leather.

Probably depends what you have on the seats. I heard the door leather is Nappa if you buy Nappa seats. Same may apply with Dakota.

You are right. I have Nappa on the doors and armrests.

At least on the door and armrests you actually touch the leather on a regular basis. You virtually never touch the dash. Why you would actually want the hottest part of the interior to be covered in a material that will inevitably shrink over time due to sun exposure is beyond me. I have it in my Escalade ESV and I would have preferred to have the extra $ in my pocket. I consider it the single biggest thing you can throw away your money on with these cars...

I don't agree. i think of the non-leather dash as the domain of the mass-market car. An 80k car should have a more plush interior.

It's not going to be a problem in the heat as long as you condition it as frequently as the seats (which I do twice a month).

What is plush about a leather dash? Unless you reach over and touch it you would never know it is not vinyl, the only way to see it is not a normal dash is the stitching...

I don't know. I have always been very impressed when I have been in cars with leather covering everything - especially Jags, the 7 series, the S-Class, Bentleys etc. I guess I want a bit of that sensation. The dash is right in front of you all the time. I think it makes a difference in that location. I am convinced the nextgen 5 series will have this as standard. The M5 has has had this for a while. Even the 1M has a leather dash. Now that Lexus is making leather dash standard on the upcoming models, I think it will come to BMWs non-M models soon too.

Do you have more pics of your imperial blue M-Sport? I really want to see more pics to inform my choice. I ordered an Imperial Blue, but now I have been having second thoughts and thinking of Graphite or Space Gray.

I had a leather covered dash on my SL and an MB Tex covered dash on my GL. Both had nicely stitched seams, but the GL had contrast stitching which looked really nice. So even the fake stuff looked good. The F10's standard dash covering looks kind of generic compared to the Benz's, so if was an option, I would have checked the box.

Mein Auto: Not worth mentioning
Just a short question:

Is the 4M5 leather dash still available on the MY13 F10 and if so, at what price? Still $1,180?

Thanks!

The leather dash on the F10 just doesn't work for me. The speedo hood needed an extra stiched seam in the leather. The seam doesn't match the original contours of the dash and looks out of place. The 7 series on the other hand has a very well executed leather dash and I love it on mine.
