Why is picking a color the hardest part?!

I am still considering getting a 335is instead of a 535, but for the most part color is the toughest decision in the process.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be Imperial Blue or Space Grey, but I'm stuck there.

Of those two I would chose Space Grey hands down!

Oh, and for what it is worth. We also just bought a 335 I sedan, sapphire black and that looks very nice as well.

I am so tempted to wait until we know what the new version looks like.

But my current lease already runs out at least two months before I could get its replacement so I probably shouldn't delay any longer...

Maybe I am being silly, but I think space grey makes the 5 look very much like the Aston Martin DBS in the First Daniel Craig Bond movie. Not identical of course, but just that sense that the car is prowling and ready to pounce. Of course, I could be biased. LOL on the color choice in the OP, its a wonder my sales associate did not pull out her hair as it took me 45 minutes to pick a color, always changing my mind at the last minute.

My Imperial Blue arrived last Friday and very happy with color choice (Oyster/Black, Anthracite wood trim). Last two 5 series, and current X5 were grey (different shades) and needed to try something different. You need to see them both in person to make the choice, pictures don't do either color justice. If resale value is important, Space Gray would be a better choice, blue is generally a less popular car color. I really like the way the metallic blue sparles in direct sunlight.

Very nice combination. Was one of the models I tested, but was afraid I would beat up the oyster too much.

I am to hard on car interiors to get Oyster/Black, so we got the black interior with space gray. I was worried it would look to conservative, but as it turns out I really like it.

For me, picking a color is easy because it's always a form of black. Henry Ford would have loved me.

For you, there was an Imperial Blue/Oyster in the showroom when I ordered my car; it was very sexy.

Mein Auto: From BMWs to Porsches
For me, based on experiences with cars made by Audi, Lexus, and BMW, body and interior colours are best determined by viewing the cars in person. In my opinion, this even holds true for such "basic" colours as black and white...black can give a car a certain stealthly or sinister look, but also may tend to hide or mask attractive angles and lines in the bodywork. I spent almost a year planning the configuration and colours of my current 7 Series; during this time I made several visits to dealerships to see how certain interior and body colours appeared in person...sometimes, I would be disappointed/surprised at how the actual appearance differed from that on the configurer.

Imperial is gorgeous. Stunning with Oyster or Cinnamon. It was that or Sophisto for us.

Space gray with saddle brown interior. Very sophisticated and classy -- at least that's what everyone says about my color choice. (I'm assuming saddle brown is an option on a 5 series).

I've had my Dark Graphite F10 almost 8 months now, and many people (even those who have seen the car a dozen or so times) still mention the beauty and complex detail in the paint under certain lighting conditions.

As I fantasize about buying the M5 late next year, it is a Dark Graphite M5. If this fantasy does not materialize, there will be a Boss 302 in the garage of one home and my current, soon-to-be lightly-moded F10, in the garage of another.

+1 on sophisto grau. i have seen tones of purple, gold, sparkling grey, and of course black when the sun is low. i am VERY happy with my choice of colors. and i guess they are not making it anymore, or at least for the time being.

I've managed to see every M Sport exterior color live. But the real trick is finding interior combos.

I've yet to see anthracite AT ALL. I need to somehow find it with Oyster and Cinnamon so I can pick between them.

My last 2 BMWs were in the darker gray range and standard black.

For a change I was thinking of going white this time, until I saw the carbon black only available with the M package (at least in Canada).

It is a very mysterious colour depending on the light from a deep blue to black.

The silver also looks very good on this car and would have been my second choice if Carbon was not available.

So what did you buy in the end? How do you like it?

I think one of the reasons the color choice is hard is because of the limited number of choices, especially on the M-Sport models.

If I could get a Monte Carlo Blue or even a Deep Sea Blue, I would take one of those. But sadly BMW doesn't offer those on the M-Sport F10.

Like the OP I have narrowed it down to Imperial Blue and Space Gray also.

Imperial Blue looks very sexy when it is clean and in bright light. The Blue is really deep, and the contrast of the Blue with Oyster is awesome - BMW colors! But when it is overcast, Imperial Blue looks totally dull - like a dirty black.

Looking dull and bland on an overcast day.

Space Gray seems to look good in all lighting conditions and also hides paint imperfections. But on the other hand I associate with the 3 series. I don't view it as a color for a $80k car.

Has anyone seen the Mojave metallic? Considering an ED 535xi in that color, but need to take a look at it first.

I have seen it. It looks very good. It is a bronze color with a similar darkness level to space gray.
