I always thought the base NA I6 was not matched very well with the X5. Thank god they brought the N55. Obviously, the diesel is the best though

I consistently average 24 in all around driving. Have done 27 on the highway if I'm not doing 85-90 but if I am it's still around 23. The darn thing is amazing. Decent MPG for a vehicle of this size and plenty of power. Need to clear up some of the Navi issues but other than that I love mine. |

Agreed! Worst handling vehicle I have ever owned. My 66 Impala handled better.

rx400h vs. x5d
I continue to read disparaging comments about the rx400h vs. the x5d. You really cannot compare the two. If all I did was city/surburban driving, the rx400h whould be a very compelling vehicle. The mileage is incredible. Interior fit is subjective, but the fit and finish is beyond reproach. Is it a little "soft" regarding ride and handling? Of course. This is what many want in a mainly urban only vehicle. But...If you want more than pedestrian handling, good steering feel, great highway mileage, and good towing capacity, there is no vehicle...not one, that compares to the x5d. I will try the new ML diesel, just for fun, and see how it compares. Doc

At 5000 miles, I got 25.8 on a 150 mile stretch yesterday. Averaging around 73 mph, light traffic, very little braking. In town I now get around 20.6, but when new it was around 17. This was winter with, I presume, the cold and the diesel additives taking away from mileage.
I have seen, soon after a fillup, my wife average close to 30. She drives much less aggressively as you might guess, and rarely goes over 70. |

Doc, don't forget to try the T-egg TDI as well as the Audi Q7 TDI to round out your experience with the diesel SUVs.

lexus 400h looks like a **** roach. the interior is filled with hard plastic. I really can't understand why the whole rx line is so popular.

Forget mileage, the first thing I noticed in the photo was the outside temp! 69 Degrees!!! We are closing in on our 70th day this summer of temps at or over 100 degrees. Send some of that down south!

When I test-drove the (gas) RX, I couldn't wait for the drive to be over. It wallowed, had no presence or solidity and as you said, is effing ugly. But this is capitalism at its best, and I'm glad to have it, considering the alternatives. |

Steady 70mph cruise. Don't use the cruise control. Feather the throttle and use the MPG gauge to assist you. You can drive pretty efficiently if you really need to

I could probably do that on the highway, but around town I think I would get a ticket.
