Master Cylinder collapsed line

Hello, I think this is a vacum line coming from my master cylinder in my 2004 330ci. Is it supposed to be collapsed like that?

You are right, and no, mine doesn't look like that at all
Do you feel that your brake pedal is very hard like you are not getting much assistance from the vacuum the engine should pull or is it still working you think?

I feel no difference in breaking, but keep in mind it was parked for about a year and a half...so it could have been this way since I started using it again and I just didn't notice. Looks like an easy fix...right?

I would replace that line at first, it could just be the line itself.

You have to make sure its seals right. With the crimp hose clamps.

Click HERE for the Hose elbow.

&

2 Hose clamps ( priced each )

&

The non return valve.

&

The return valve gasket.

Without checking the line pressure and seeing if the Brake servo unit is bad.

Thanks and i hope that helps.

I would guess someone may have spilled brake fluid on the line at some point in the past which caused it to deteriorate and loose it's strength, collapsing under vacuum.

Come to think of it, that is a very distinct possibility. Damn brake juice is so problematic, eating thru everthing but the interior of the brake system....

Could be...I did recently got an oil change at an Oil Can Henry's, and they top everything off. They could have spilled some then. I think age is a factor as well and the fact that it was parked for 1 1/2 years.

Lol, the interior of the brake system might be done as well, we just can't see it.

That hose degrades from heat over time and begins collapse and turn brittle. Im told that if the hose fully collapses, youll still be able to stop the car but the power assist will not work. Probably a good idea to change the hose. Does anyone know how to release those clamps? Id like to buy the kit from ECS but im unsure about hose clamps. Do you need a special tool?

Yes, I finally got to a real computer. It comes out to about $30-35 for everything. Great price compared to Real OEM suggested $45ish...

I know, I'm just trying to keep everything running as this is my main form of transportation. Once I get the change to do everything, I'll see if I get a chance to do a write up.

All done! Man, what the hell does that hose do?...My car went from braking like I was slamming on my brakes, to smooth braking now. Overall, it took about 30 minutes to complete, of which 15 minutes was spent trying to break the stupid BMW hose clamps. I bought the OEM clamps, but went to buy some normal screw type clamps for ease of removal later on.

Also, could this cause a check engine light? Specifically a running lean on bank x? Reason I ask is because while I was changing the hose I saw that it goes into a y connector in which the other hose is coming from the intake. The end of the y goes under and into what seems to be the intake manifold, but I can't see that far.

Write-up coming tomorrow...
