Exclamation A/C Blower Fan Not Working ?

Hey Guys I need some help. The blower fan in my A/C ( or heater) does not blow. On the display it says its on. The Auto feature trys to adjust the blower fan speed to the proper speed but nothing happens! Basically everything works but the blower. Also this is a intermitten problem. One day it will work fine and one day it wont? I will check the fuse-if there is one. But other than that what else could it be? 2002 325i Automatic 79,000 miles

Final Stage Unit/Resistor. Mine does the same thing, but works more than it doesn't, so I haven't changed mine yet either. But search on here, there are hundreds of threads/DIYs on it. Starless has the best DIY with pics. Not too big a deal......pricewise, ....but you need to be Gumby to get to it! LOL

If it is the FSU, a quick /FSU in the bestlinks nets the following ...

- What is the canonical thread on the BMW E39 FSU/FSR/Blower Motor Resistor (1) and what is the right brand FSR to purchase (1) (2) when your interior heating & air conditioning HVAC/IHKA blower motor goes haywire (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7) (8) & how to repair your own final stage resistor including an autopsy & wiring diagram schematic (1) (2) and why a bad final stage unit will cause the battery to drain overnight (1) (2) (3) & how to isolate and replace the E39 blower motor (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) & how not to replace the FSU (1)

Note: These were written for the E39 FSU; however, the solutions appear to apply equally well to the E46 FSU ...

Smile

Hey guys, I'm a new BMW e46 owner from the UK, had a few glitches with my car (2001 330d Tourer), and have managed to solve all of them from reading posts on this forum (and a few others..) I had a similar problem with the A/C when the fan would either blow at full speed or not at all, when I googled it looked like I was gonna have to change the Final Stage Resistor, but one of the last posts I read on another forum said that BMW recommended removing fuse number 50 (40 amp in my case, but believe some are 30 amp in other cars), which kills the power to the FSR and resets it. Did this a couple of days ago and hey presto, every works fine now, saved me removing the FSR and changing it. Maybe you could try the same and see how you get on?

I have not replaced DFU yet, the last time my blower stopped working, I Pulled over and removed fuse # 50 (while car was still running) waited a minute and replaced. To see if DFU would reset as some have suggested. It has been about 3 weeks and have not had any issues yet. So just waitin to see if it holds up so I can replace before winter if needed.

Had the same problem two weeks ago. Was the Final Stage Resistor just as everyone has stated. Quick fix by my independent.

know where the FSU was made? there have been reports of bad "new" ones made in China. go figure....

blower itself can go bad too, as can the climate control unit in the dash

Can you tell me where the motor is located please, I have already changed the FSU, and my a/c still won't kick on. the only time I get cold air is when I'm going over 35mph. I wanted to test the motor.

A/C Blower Fan Not Working ?

Ya its same with me my car fans does not work at all but i feel some air when i drive it fast enough or when i get a car wash and its dryer turn on then i get some air any way to change the blower motor u need to open the whole dash board its not an easy task as theres a air bag inside so if u do any thing wrong it will blast like an explosive and to fix that air bag u need to replace it it will cost u a lot thats y i did not do it by my self i was not afraid but i don't have the second car and the blower motor price on eBay is 250$ almost so i got the estimate from firestone they charged me 475$ for replacement along with motor and 1 year warranty so i chose that option and it took two complete days to them to change the blower so u can now think they are professionals and they took 2 days and for us how much time it will. Take we never know so i will suggest u go take a quote from different places and go for the cheeper one and i can confirm u that its ur motor fault

You get to the blower from the engine bay. See e46 wiki link above for links to DIYs and other info. It is a little tricky but very doable.
