Ah, Looks like the exact car that I own and with the same interior problem. I happen to find vinyl paint at Advance Auto in spray that matches almost perfectly. Sprayed some in the top of the lid and applied with a small paint brush. Good Luck

I only know enough to be dangerous, perhaps, but I'd only clean by wiping with a very soft MF towel, sometimes as dry, and sometimes as damp. If any detergent is ever used, only the most mild possible. Then, I'd make sure there is always some protectant on there, whether 303 Aerospace, or Optimum Protectant Plus, etc. Choose water based protectants. For fixing it, well if I were in your shoes, I'd repost that photo in detailing forums (Autopia, Auto Geek, Meguiar's, etc), and send the pic as a query to the top detailers in your area. Good luck, and keep us posted. I know E46 trim could be terrible with peeling, and the parts are not cheap of course, but this might be the first time I've seen an E9X with a peeling interior . . . edit: I suppose if there isn't any, some window tint with 99% or better UV rejection could help its longevity, as well as not having any hand lotions being used that may harm the interior. If lotions/creams are used, try to touch as little as possible? Just a thought anyway. Last edited by Ilovemycar; 08-24-2011 at 01:18 PM. |

They had some issues with interior peeling in that model year. If you are nice with the dealer, perhaps they can work something out with you...did they have a recall at all for that? I mean, it clearly was an issue since the later year models had this resolved.

Looks like the center console is about $254.00 to replace from getBMWparts.com
Not too bad. I believe this is the part number: 51167130688

Can't really help here but had the same problem with my 07, but not to that extreme. I'm sure it would have gotten that bad. I agree with the above comment and seeing if the dealer will meet you some where in the middle on the fix. I personally think that BMW should be embarrassed by this problem and would not want a car of this age looking like this.

Just last week my driver seat started to wrinkle and it was really bothering me, so I took it into BMW and they said that wrinkles aren't covered under warranty, but that they'll hook me up and replace it anyway. BMW is good about making sure their products stay looking good, wether under warranty or not. I've heard of several people go though the same thing you and I have went through and BMW always hooks the customers up. Try taking it in and see what they say.

interior peeling
My vehicle has the same exact issue (literally the picture looks exactly the same). I would love to know what exact vinyl paint from Advance you tried and if you were happy with the outcome.

Same issue, same interior. I think its from the rubbing of your hands or jacket when you buckle your seatbelt. I also have all the paint peeled off my cup holders....
