Production Line is Moving!

Placed my order early afternoon on Monday Aug 15th. Happy to see a change in status on the site yesterday to “Production Begins". Was a little freaked out when all my options weren’t listed. Called my CA who double checked and confirmed all is well and gave me the VIN.

Great news! Same thing happened with my (still in-flight) order's report on the BMW web site -- plus it showed that my car was white, not the color I'd ordered. Got screenshots from my CA emailed to me proving that the order was actually correct... and the web site eventually converged with reality sometime during the week of production.

Thanks P! Was told that they (CA) get calls like this all the time. I'm thinking then why the hell don't you do a little better job upfront managing people's expectations. No harm, no foul...

i thought 2012 production doesn't start till sept. i wonder if i can move up my ED date.

Thanks for sharing. I'm still seeing Order Documented status, and calling BMW USA still says "scheduled for production with no confirmed production date." Dealer had previously told me I was scheduled for production this week, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed and checking the status daily...

You gave me a freight there, I thought it was some breaking news about the funfer line moving from Dingolfing to Asia or something. Uh-uh now I will get a political rant from bm323 again...

Yeah!!!

I had sent an email to the Sales Manager asking to add one more option to my car (not really need...) and got this email:

"Hello Alex,

Your car went into production this morning at 7:11 AM. "

That is great news!!!

Maybe our cars will fetch a ride together on the first boat out of Bimmerheaven

At least they will be built before Octoberfest... you never know what goes on on October built cars..

I got the VIN number!!!

The website already shows my car in production, and with the right options and colors!!!

The only funny thing is that the color does not have a name... but looks like Carbon Black (blue) to me!

Alex....Just saw your build---what is "Black Panel Display |Kitchen Sink Pkg..."????Iam planning similar config with 535Xi...Was curious.

Black Panel is the instrument panel that you get when you also order Heads-Up-Display. The instruments look like those in the 7 series and the GT, a black screen, without any numbers, only the two semi-circles that contain the tach and speedo. When you turn on the engine the whole thing illuminates and comes to life. Looks VERY cool.

Of course the other package, the "Kitchen Sink Pkg" is just a joke... Some people order everything but the kitchen sink, in my case, I ordered that too...

How long does production typically take? I check every morning.. and it's still in production.. argh!

12 days from beginning to end.

Up to 1 week in transit to the port, and from there about 2 weeks before it reaches the USA.

Thanks Alex. Hmm.. my production started on 8/9. It's been much more than 12 days..

Massyman, did you order a 2011 or a 2012?

If it started production in August 9, I am assuming it was a 2011. If that is the case, then production should have been done by now.

I would call the 800# and ask a rep about the status.

It's a 2011. I have the print out from Dealerspeed. Production started 8/9/11. But then on the right hand side of the sheet it says Est. Prod. Date 8/30/11

What's the 800#? I signed into MY BMW but couldn't find it.

The number is 800-831-1117

You can use the automated system using option 2 from the main menu, but sometimes it is not up to date, so you may want to press 0 and talk to a rep.

It sounds strange that they would build a 2011 on 8/30 when they already started the 2012s on 8/25...

My own 2011 build went into status 151 (Body Shop) on 8/25. Automated system says it'll be completed tomorrow (8/29). Figured it'll be one of the last MY11 finished. Maybe certain parts of the line get converted as the last MY11 finish up.

So much for the Track My BMW from BMWUSA.com (I don't know why it does not give step by step info) Just called the 800# (Thanks Alex!) The automated machine said it's IN THE PAINT SHOP and schedule to be finished on 8/29. However, the rep said it is in ASSEMBLY and she is not sure when it will be completed...
