Z3 99 2.8 Idle / Power Issues

Back looking for help with this persistant problem...

Rough idle at cold start...spitter / sputter & no throttle response. Restart car a few times and issue clears up. Once on the road, throttle response is poor with much hesitation on the top end (drop a gear and the car will take off as it should) and, after cruising along at highway speed, all power is lost & no throttle response (car will not stall out) period. Pull over, turn off car and restart immeditely, everything returns to normal and the process begins again.

Codes are indictating misfires & O2 sensors.

I have replaced / performed the following...

Precat O2 sensors...fuel injectors...intake manifold rubbers...crankcase vent valve and hoses...fuel filter...rebuilt the dual vanos...cleaned the throttle body...cleaned the MAF x 2...new plugs.

Costs are climbing without any changes...greatly appreciate any assistance offered.

Still hoping someone out there can help with this...last advice was to replace the CCV valve and associated hoses...did this and still no improvement.

from a purely amateur mechanic perspective, seems it could be a computer problem, or am i just showing my ignorance?

Are you still getting the same codes you got before the 02 sensor install ? For a misfire it seems it could be a bad plug or a bad ignition coil. My car has 6 coils. They do go bad. What about the after cat 02 sensors. I just replaced all 4 of mine.

otoh, i had the same codes on my ford v6 and it turned out to be a bad fuel injector. this after changing 02 sensors and coil.

but the way the car runs well sometimes and bad others could mean a problem in the "brain."
