X3 scores 5 stars in Euro NCAP Crash Tests

Newly released crash test results from the Euro NCAP include the 2011 X3.

Details in the link (pics and videos also avail):

Generally good marks. I just wouldn't want to get into side impact against a tree or get rear ended.(weak chest protection in the pole test, marginal head restraint results)

Sounds good but how will that compare with the US highway transportaiton agency and insurance institute tests. Those are the ones that I am concerned with for US spec cars. But of course for our european members that is good news.

Generally the Euro NCAP tests are more stringent and more detailed than the reports from the IIHS or other US agencies, which is why I rely heavily on the NCAP rating when drawing conclusions about vehicle and pedestrian safety.

Of course, I should have realized that the european tests were more stringent and thorough than ours. I wonder why we even bother testing, why not just use the europen tests since they are better? Food for thought I suppose. Thank you for the information.
