What is 225-Sport Suspension Delete?

I have a price sheet for an X3 xDr28i, it has the M Sport Package, but also the 225 delete. Everything else seems included in the package.

Anyone knows what this delete is about?

It deletes the base sport suspension and adds the M sport specific one?

Sport suspension is not offered in the US market. (Our crumbling roads would trash the car.) It is part of the M-Sport package in other markets, hence the delete for the manufacturing order. We can get dynamic handling instead. :-{

Similar to the X5, the M sportpaket adds SA226 sport suspension by default in most markets. However in the US, customers don't like a firmer ride (we just want the wheels and aero kit) so BMW NA forces customers to stick with the standard suspension unless you want to upgrade to the Dynamic Dampers.

OK if I want to have the sport suspension must order DHP? That makes sense because I was also looking at a 35i m sport with DHP, it didn't have 225.

BTW, I felt the 35i was too trigger happy and too effortless, then I got to test drive a Volvo XC60 R Design, thought that thing could easily put the X3 35i in the rear view mirror

For 2012, the XC60 T6 R design for a significant power bump I hear

It was my understanding from all the different posts I read that DHP or not the sport/msport USA packages get normal/sport/sport+ mode. From the charts I've seen with dhp the sport+ mode gets some variable control of the anti skid protection system. Also it's my understanding that dhp give some steering benefits as well as unique rear differential torque splitting. Suspension wise, aside from being variable and more dynamically responsive to the road it was not my understanding that the sport+ mode dhp vs non-dhp offered a stiffer or more 225/true sport suspension than non-dhp.

Can some provide link/documentation to this?

Thats dumb and painful.

So dhp doesn't add anything from a sports suspension standpoint (my original understanding)?

Hopefully Dinan will have a nice chip+suspension kit in a year or so

If this is the case, Volvo definitely has gone the opposite direction with the R. The suspension was very tight, I could feel the bumps, but it allowed me to head straight into corners with no understeer, no body roll. If not for the higher sitting position, it would be like driving a 3 with the sport suspension.

The R does lack different drive modes to soften the bumps for daily driving, the brakes were soft and lacked confidence. It was also too quiet for its speed, not much road feedback other than the bumps.

I agree the lack of the sport suspension in the X3 is a big let down, after knowing what it could do in the XC60 R. They should at least have offered the option.

I'm sure they will with the 2013's along with the x3d I have been but can no longer wait for - would really piss me off...

They won't offer it for the simple reason that people want it. Then when their tires blow out, their wheels bend and their suspension parts break, they are not happy customers. Just check around on these boards.

I drove a XC60 T6 (not the R), and while the acceleration and handling were good, the X3 35i was substantially better at all speeds (particularly in Sport mode).

Did you get a chance to drive the XC60 T6 non-R for comparison with the R?

I suggest checking out the threads at http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=310. Or Google on x3.xbimmers if the link doesn't work, and go to Second Generation BMW X3 General Forum for additional discussions on what DHP provides.

Between them and here at Bimmerfest, I've seen several posts from people who were able to do comparison drives and feel DHP gives the option of firming up the suspension that cannot be done without DHP.
