Question Angel eye halo DRL for '11 BMWs vs those on E60 LCI ('08-'10)

Thank you in advance for reading this post and and input you can give.

My driver side H8 light went out this past week. The first thing I did was to make an appointment with the dealer which isn't until next weekend. I'm not much of a DIYer, and I figured changing this bulb is going to be harder than changing a bulb on a Honda. Since a burned bulb is a wear and tear sort of thing, am I to assume they will charge me for the bulb and labor for putting it in?

I have noticed that the running lights on most of the new '11 BMWs have a bright white LED look. Does anyone know if it would be possible to use this OEM bright white bulb on my E60 LCI as a replacement? Would they be compatible? Or do they use a different application?

Finally, after doing a search on halo light replacement for my E60 I came up with either the LUX V3 or the WeissLicht as options. If the new white light for the newer BMWs are incompatible then I'm going for either one of these two options. I would prefer to stay OEM though, but not sure if the newer white lights will work on my E60.

While doing this search I realized how easy it is to change the H8 bulb, that I'm going to do it myself

Danny

Easy to replace yourself. You're lucky you have an LCI model... I'm limited to dim eyes.

Spend the extra $$$ and get the LUX V3's (need the new gray version, the old silver and black ones won't fit an E60 LCI). Nearly all kits/bulbs look good at night or dusk with the headlights are off (notice that's when most photos are taken). But most will be nearly invisible during the daytime and will dull to a pale yellow at night when the headlights are on (often worse than stock). You won't have either problem with LUX V3's.

+1 - I kept looking at mine and I kept not liking the ricey look... so off it went and the stock is back. I am at peace with myself once more.

Picture this - 98 Honda Civic with a supercharger, dual exhaust, headers, a rear wing that equals 1/4 the size of the whole car, a cold air intake, underglow neons, halo headlights, gold fog lights, led taillights, 2.5% tint and black 16 inch rims.

That help?

Hello everyone!

Newbie here. I logged on because I wanted to change my bulbs as well. I have a 2008 535xi with the Bi-Xenon bulbs and turning headlights, but the running lights are still yellow.

I'm in Toronto, Canada. Can you anyone provide me with options?

If it's DIY, is it a simple replacement or do I need a conversion kit? How much would it cost DIY in terms of $$ and hours spent? If it's stock at the dealer, how much would they charge for it?

Anyone can share their experience wrt this topic?

Thank you so much!

The dealer does not offer these, you would need to take your headlight out and from there u can take out the bulb for angel eye and replace. PM if u need more details
Ps they are about 55-65$

You DO NOT need to take out the headlight to change the AE bulbs.

And yours is a 2008, which is a Life Cycle Impulse model.

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking I'll go with LUX. If that doesn't work out I'll go back to stock as the DRL halos are very bright.

***Update***
The service advisor said there is an update to the DRLs. There was too much power going to them that the H8 bulbs burned out prematurely. Maybe someone has heard of this? They will do some software update and a new part and replace both left and right bulbs. So I'm going to stay stock for now.

I just picked up a 06 550i... and noticed that when I start the car, the angel eyes in mine does a alternating flicker between both sides.... it does this for a couple seconds, then just stops.

They are a blueish color, but not as bright as the 08 and up 335s and f10's i love seeing with their super bright angel eyes..

my first question is... is my car supposed to have the angel eyes as a drl?

also, how do i get mine to be as bright as the newer model bmws?

trying to see if I can somehow avoid getting LCI headlights for now... rather put into a hamann lip soon

- sorry if i thread jacked!!!
