About to get my 2011 550i. Should I powder coat the wheels?

Well, I'm about to be a first time BMW owner on Wednesday. It's a Carbon Black 550i with M Sport Package. Looks beautiful. However, I really like black wheels but am not sure who they would look on a Carbon Black 550i. I'd be powder coating the 19 inch M wheels that come with the package. Thoughts?

Black wheels on Carbon Black would look terrible, IMO. I would think that solid black wouldn't look great with the Carbon color.

I'd go with a gray tone if you want to stay away from Silver.

I wouldn't

NOT on Black bodywork, it would not look good.

For another data point, go onto TireRack.com, choose a black wheel similar to the M Sport rims, and click on the "see it on the car" link. They don''t have Carbon Black, so use Jet Black.

To me, black rims just look dirty, but to each his (or her) own. Still, I really liked the dark gray rims on my Carbon Black E39 M5. Anybody remember what it was called? "Black chrome" or something like that? So, maybe a dark gray would be okay?

powdercoat matte black looks good on most any car...

Black wheels look like 4 spares or that they're full of brake dust. Don't do it.

Don't powder coat them. But have them repainted Liquid Graphite. That will look amazing. Liquid Graphite is a slightly glossy gunmetal finish. Looks awesome in black cars.

I would do it if it was space gray or silver titanium..

Well, it's black wheels that I wanted in the first place. However, when I asked the salesperson at BMW of Dallas, he told me that the only thing they can do is have them powder coated. Basically, he was saying "you get what you get".

I'd love gloss black wheels (again, assuming that they'd look good on Carbon Black). Do I just get my OEM wheels painted or can I by BMW wheels that are already black?

I agree with Stealth Pilot...this should be a great compliment to your F10's color. The stock wheels, as well as any other shiny option are "high maintenance" and tough to keep squeaky clean when constantly re-coated in BMW break dust. A gunmetal finish should look excellent.

I agree that a gunmetal finish would look awesome. Personally, I love the M5 wheels. Wish I could find some very similar to them, with the gunmetal finish.

I saw some TSW Nurburgring wheels that were great looking. Dont know enough about TSW's quality, but they looked pretty cool.

Agreed on the gun metal tint to the wheels. Audi has them on their S-Line packages, and with the S-cars, they offer a Titanium Package. The wheels are darker than typical silver/aluminum finish, but not black.

It looks sharp and also masks the brake dust.

Have you considered the BMW Multi Spoke 410 Bicolour Polished Black wheels?
Perhaps your dealer can give you a credit on your new 19's that you can use towards the purchase of the 410's.

Looks amazing and very little brake dust. I'm really not sure exactly how carbon black looks in person so maybe that's why alot of people are suggesting to paint them charcoal.

I think these are a nice blend of gunmetal and polished look.

Carbon black looks like old carbon paper. It has a lot of blue and even a hint of purple in it.

ahhhh i see. well in that case i'd do for the gunmetal graphite grey color as well.
