If you were in the market for a N54 335....
What year would you want and why? Just curios to see what people have to say.

I'd like a 2009 (funny thing about that).
Been around long enough to knock the kinks out from the first couple of years. Still has the nice features (REST button, heated steering wheel with the sport package), and a decent sounding radio even without Logic 7. Couple of years old now, so the price will be decent. FWIW, George

09 will present the best value. In sedan form you will get LCI, also the Idrive is much improved. I would really have to do some major detective work to find out about the previous owner. With the amount of piggyback tunes, and thrashing of leased cars. I would much rather buy the car from an individual and find out more about who he or she is as well as the service history. People go to a dealer and think a CPO car means the thing will be great shape often find nasty surprises.

I concur. The N54 gently gets me around town, but when I need to leap onto the interstate and punch it, I am doing 80 before I realize what just happened...
I am so happy.

Seems like 2009 was a good year. Thanks guys. I like the rims on the 07-08 335's equipped w/ sports package. Does anyone know if the 09 and 10 335's (w/ sports package) have the same rims?

No, they don't. The wheels changed in '09, very nice five spoke design.

Is the consensus year 2009 because it is less expensive then a 2010, or do enthusiasts just not like the changes BMW made from
2009-2010? |

2009 brought the LCI facelift and the new HD based iDrive navi. Anything after that should be great honestly.
2009 models you can get for fairly cheap as a CPO, and still have 1 year free maint + 3 years of warranty. It's a win-win. |

2010 forward has the N55 twin scroll, single turbo motor. I voted 2009 because you asked about the N54 motor. Personally, I prefer the N55 motor and would vote for that. I think it delivers smoother performance than the N54. Some people have a distinct preference for the twin turbo N54. It is more easily tuned than the N55 and that is important to some.

The heated steering wheel is just that - the wheel has a heater switch similar to the seat heaters. Very nice in the winter if you don't like driving with gloves. It went away for sport packages when the only sport package option became the M-Sport, which does not have a heated wheel option. The REST button is another cold weather nicety. It runs the electric water pump and heater fan to keep warm air blowing into the cabin for 10 - 15 minutes after you shut the engine off. Just the thing if you're stepping out of the car for a few minutes and want to come back to a warm space. Funny how these small comfort options become attractive as you get older. ![]() They are. The N55 was introduced in 2010 for the 2011 model year. 2010 models had the N54, as do some later specialty models (the 335is, for example).

The heated wheel is a part of the sports package or the cold weather?
I have the sports in my 09 and have never heard of, or seen, a button for a heated wheel. |

However, when the standard sports package went away and the M-Sport package became the only option, you lost the ability to order the heated wheel with it. You can still get the cold weather package with M-Sport, but the combination of the 2 deletes the heated wheel. You do still get the heated seats, but will have frosty fingers to go with the warm backside.

Ah ok that explains it.
The previous owner of my car didn't get cold weather package. He just had the heated seats added on. When I bought it as a CPO, it didn't really matter to me. My part of Cali and cold weather package don't really go hand-in-hand. |
