NNR Coilovers on a 540? Exp.? The good, and the bad...hopefully not the ugly

ok guys, i just came across these today when i almost sold my OEM M5 rims because i hated the gap between my tires and fenders 245/35/18 and 275/35/18 in rear. i wanted to go for a more flush stance. unfortunately being the college student that i am, i cant really drop the douggh for a reputable brand. anyway i came across a thread about how awful, and great they where, however the guys stated that they where made only for the I6 guys, but a couple guys ran them on the V8's and said they worked fine, all that was needed was i6 strut mounts in the front.

a set sales for $350

im pretty savy when it come to cars (just changed my torque converter) but for whatever reason ive blanked out on the differences between shock/strut and coilovers, and how they work.
so...can i get a quick summary on that, and of course any experiences with them.

Hi

Have a look at this thread

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1706220

I'm of the opinion to get things that are meant to fit on the car from source as that's what they've been developed for. There are 'budget' coilovers for V8 E39's and some cheapies on UK ebay are 200 so around $310 USD. I'm sure there's the same for the US. In that link you see the guy got the JOM's and had them sent across via courier.

Perhaps if you really must stick on 6 cylinder suspension on your V8, then perhaps be prepared for them not to fit correctly, or having to faff around making them fit. On top of that, they'll have the wrong characteristics due to weight differences so although probably small differences, you know your car's suspension won't be 100% for it..

Cheers, Dennis!

I've seen a JOM coilover totally fail, totaling the e36 it was installed on and shutting down the track at Barber for 45 min. while they cleaned the debris from the track. Had another car, photographer, or corner worker happened to be between that car and the wall it wouldn't have been pretty, and I can't imagine the consequences if it had happened on the street. (i'll post pics later as they are on my home computer)

The NNRs aren't meant to work with v8 e39s because of the weight difference.
