The BMW one covers electronics on the top, which is the most worrisome. The top has never been cover (typically as it was fabric), but the don't cover body panels, so the top would make sense to be excluded. The mechanism is just bushings and hinges and should not need repaired unless the electronics do something wrong and cause a mechanical problem in which case they cover the resulting damage, so if a sensor fails and your roof turns into a pretzel, they would cover the parts damaged due to the electronics failure. The only thing that I would be concerned about that doesn't seem to be covered would be the hydraulics as the pump is $1200 alone.

Well if my top becomes a pretzel. I'm grabbing the salt and cheese!

Question

I live in CA, so AAA is not an option for me.

Perhaps things have changed, the new brochure for the extended warranty states that the BMW Gold warranty covers the convertible top storage lid and top drive motors (see "Electrical" section of attached document). Wouldn't the motors be mechanisms?

If you want to have the radio, CD player, and navigation system covered, you need the BMW Platinum warranty.

I have about 2 months left on my factory warranty and I want to get the BMW Platinum (7 year/70,000 mile option). Has anyone gotten a quote on this? If so, how much?

Thanks!!!

In sectio n 2,C,iii of the BMW warranty it specifically states that with the exception of electronics convertible tops and convertible top mechanisms are not covered.

The AAA Autoguard is an exlusionary warranty so all items are covered unless it is specifically stated that they are excluded. Of course we are going to have to take all of this on faith until we hear from someone who had a convertible top problem and submitted a claim to AAA Autoguard. When I purchased the plan I was assured that the convertible top was covered.

Yeah I will be getting the Platinum as well if I can't find a BMW under original warranty or extended BMW warranty.

I might have found an E92 with everything I want except for manual transmission. Only deal breakers would be no navigation and no M-Package. It's a coupe, but would prefer a convertible. As long as it fits the criteria I'm happy.

I spoke to a dealer about this. The hydraulic pump is only covered in the event of an electronic failure.
