7 Series - E65 / E66 (2002 - 2008)
Discussion of BMW's 4th generation E65/E66 7 Series flagship. The E65 generated much controversy, due to its radical styling and iDrive user difficulties. Nonetheless, the E65 broke records to become the best-selling 7-series iteration ever, especially after its 2005 facelift.

Dead after using the cigarette lighter

Hi all,

I own a 2005 735i; today after plugged a phone charger into one of the 2 cigarettes lighter on the back and connected it to my phone, my car has suddenly switched off and all the lights and power gone.
Luckily I was parked! Sounds to my like short, but I really have no idea on how to proceed. The key is stuck inside and nothing is working at all.

Any hint would be really appreciated ***128578;

Start checking fuses.. It is hard for me to believe that the lighter socket would cause this problem. It has to be something other than that. Do you have any other troubles with the car?

What country are you in? I looked up Panana and could not find a city, state or country. Do you mean Panama? Here is what I found on Panana. I hope I'm wrong.

The USA did not sell a 735i so I'm going by other US models. I hope someone else has more information.

Rick.

Yeah typo, meant to be Panama. The car actually is coming from US, but most likely originally came from Germany; however should be the same as 740i.
I did check already all the fuses in the trunk, any other place to check? Today I will try to jump start it.
I know it sounds weird, but the car is dead in the exact moment I did connect my phone to the cigarette lighter, can't be just a coincidence :-/

There are fuses in the IVM module under the passenger side fresh air intake.

You may also have a bad IVM module it's a common problem. Replacement costs about $100. And you can do it yourself.

Fuse chart if you lost yours.

There also fuses located behind the glove box on the passenger side.

You can fix your typo in your profile.

You was right, it was a mere coincidence! Positive battery cable in the trunk was flaky! All sorted now, sorry for wasting your time.
