7 Series - E65 / E66 (2002 - 2008)
Discussion of BMW's 4th generation E65/E66 7 Series flagship. The E65 generated much controversy, due to its radical styling and iDrive user difficulties. Nonetheless, the E65 broke records to become the best-selling 7-series iteration ever, especially after its 2005 facelift.

Bank 5 misfire

Ok Folks

I have a 2003 745li about six months ago I had a major engine overhaul

Valve stem seals
All related gaskets
Spark plugs
Ignition coils etc.....

Over the past two months I have been getting an engine warning of reduced power ran a scan and found that bank five was misfiring

So I replaced the spark plug witch mind you was still fine and the car idled fine for 24 hrs

Again it began to misfire, so I took a good look at the coil and still good. Took the plug out and put it back in. Idled fine for about two hours then it misfired again.

Any ideas this becoming extremely frustrating

Might be as simple as a bad ccv letting oil into the intake and down into the engine. First plugs to get fouled are 1 and 5. I'd start there and see, also pull that spark plug and make sure the gap is correct and swap that coil with another cylinder to confirm the misfire isn't just the coil going bad.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply, I have replaced both CCV when I had the overhaul done. I will swap the coil today and see if that works.

That would be crazy if that's the solution because These coils are less than a month old
