XM hardwire install in older E46
On my 99 328i, I have installed the Delphi XM unit, now all hardwired, thanks to great info in this forum. I started out, as I lack the aux input, resorting to the tape-input (yuck!). I bought the Delphi FM modulator that is meant to install between the antenna and the back of the radio - except the modulator comes with standard car coax connections and the car does not.
If anyone is contemplating this install, I found converters through www.logjamelectronics.com The two converters required are 40-VW12 and 40-VW20. Apart from a tidier install, the modulator powers the XM. If the modulator is connected to a switched power supply, so is the XM. Turn your key to off powers both units down. I didn't know if I'd enjoy XM radio, but I find that I won't go anywhere without it. BTW, I just drove this past weekend from Philly to Richmond VA and back. The trafffic info channels (Philly, Baltimore, DC) were REALLY helpful. Cheers, Brian |

Why not use the Blitzsafe adaptor and wire it directly to the radio via the CD changer wire?
