A colleague of mine is selling his brand new rims from 2011 535i SP
245/40/19 front and 275/35/19 rear
2 questions
1. if this rims fit my 550 xi M sport
2. is this a good idea to get this rim and put dedicated winter rubber in order to have good looking winter set
thanks Alex
ideally no. The staggered set up on the F10 is for traction and to combat oversteer, none of which are important when you are driving on snowy roads. Ideally you want a smaller rim and tire for winter driving not a wide rim with low profile tires. I know 17's don't look that hot on a 550, but when you are tracking through the mush, apperance is the last thing on your mind.
BMW sells their own set for the F10 and recommends:
225/55-17 with Run Flat Dunlop SP Wintersport
^ why do you need winter package - you are in the sunny Calif.
There is one set being offered for the 5 series (at least for Canada) oem winter package - style 281 - 18 * 8 et 30 - tire 245/45/18 Dunlop 3D ROF - squared setup. I believe the dealer in US sells for $2500.
This is common misconception of CA. We have as much severe weather condition as any part of North America. Even in LA, there is skiing 2 hours away, up very steep treacherous terrain that involves driving with snow chains.
In bay area you can drive 3-4 hours to lake tahoe and be at 6k feet base elevation and 9-10k feet on the slopes.
