E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135. |

Hi, i own a 120d 2007 manual 1 series. is a great car but i am thinking of changing it for either 118i SE automatic petrol 2009 or a 118d SE 2010. Which is the better car for performance and economy. i do not do many miles
Please advise

I'm sure you can find this information by speaking to a dealership. There are no diesel or four cylinder 1 series cars in the US, so most of us just don't know, but I'm pretty certain that the diesel engine will out perform a similar sized petroleum engine in both torque output and fuel efficiency.

Most of the NA folks think a 118 is pathetically weak, but for sheer driving fun it's great. Can't get them anymore in the US, but there are plenty in Europe. Hope somebody on your side of the pond will chime in.

They were never available in the US, BMW is releasing it's first four cylinder engine in quite some time in the US later this year when the Z4 sDrive28i debuts.
