03 530i little oil leak

Hello everyone, I have a small oil leak. I'm not to positive if it's coming from the side of the engine. It appears to be that way. The engine only has 124,000 miles on it. It runs and drives excellent. But as a car guy, it bothers me that my engine is wounded. Any suggestions on what might stop it? Or possibly any one else had this issue?

Does yours drip all the way down onto the control arms and what not? Does yours leave little puddles everywhere you park your car?

oh yeah. it's pretty remarkable the amount left. I never lose more than 3/4 quart though. Although I can smell it after long drives, its never a burden as long as I keep it filled.
I have the new gasket and banjo washers, but havn't had the time to tear in to it yet.

if you look close at the driver side of the engine just above the oil pan and below the CCV, you can see oil on the block.

this picture shows where the leak happens.
I dont have a belly pan under the car, so nothing to catch it.

I just looked and it seems to be in that area. If not the same exact problem your car has. I believe it's in the same exact spot. Like I said, my engine is running great. Just a small leak. Do you know the part that I may need to fix this issue?

If it's coming from the same area as in the image then yes, its your oil filter housing gasket (OFHG), although it's more of an o-ring rectangular seal, easy job once you take the alternator out, most new owners get blooded on this job

If you do the job make sure yo clean the area well after remounting the OFH, otherwise you will think it's still leaking.

There are several excellent videos detailing the OFHG replacement on YouTube. Just be sure to keep track of the bolt positions as they come out of the housing.
This will also be a great opportunity to replace a few old pulleys, your belts, and to use that torque wrench you've been eyeing.
The OFHG part is about $6 from a dealer.

yup.
I paid 5.59 from the dealer for it. the banjo washers were a buck each I think.
I know it was under 10 for everything I need to do the job.
