CIC Retrofit help!

for my 04 530i, but I have read that the VIN should be the same as the donor vehicle. I believe that the CIC is getting programmed with my VIN...does this change anything for me from having a hassle of activating the navigation and voice control? Will I be required to buy an emulator for my car afterwards? I'm purchasing the retrofit from bimmer retrofit if that helps

Hello,

I installed a cic unit in my 2004 530i as well. Don't change the vin number in the cic. You won't be able to get an fsc activation code for the cic based on your model year vin. I left mine the same as the 2010 550i donor and bought the activation module from bimmer retrofit. No issues with voice control or navigation now. I also updated the navigation software last year by purchasing an update fsc code online using the donor car vin.

In order to get the most out of the cic I would recommend installing a combox as well. Then you will get album art on the display, bluetooth audio streaming, online internet when using a tethered connection to your phone, pandora radio if you are in the u.s. and a bunch of other apps.

Thanks for replying Henry! Where did you get your combox from? Was it difficult to install or is it pretty much plug and play?

I got the combox out of a 2011 x5 at a wrecker while i was getting the parts to retrofit the power tailgate on my 07 x5.

Not exactly plug & play but not overly difficult if you have a tcu. I know there was an e60 combox diy posted somewhere. Not sure if it was this site or maybe bmwcoding.com.
