Yellow brake warning light?

I was asked about a yellow "brake" warning light going on in a X3. The driver doesn't comprehend any of the symbols so the brake description may be completely wrong. However, the person knows colors so yellow is probably correct. A red light may also have gone on. The person forcibly slammed the parking brake which may have extinguished the warning light. There is such thing as false memory but later accounts was that the 4x4 warning light might have been on, too.

Any guesses? I suggested to the person that they circle a drawing of the dashboard which they keep in the car so that someone can identify which warning light they are talking about.

Anyway, what yellow warning lights are there on a X3

According to the Owner's Manual:

The (BRAKE) warning lamp in the instrument cluster lights up in yellow.
Dynamic Brake Control is defective.
Have the system checked and repaired at your BMW SAV Center ASAP.

If it is on in combination with the 4x4 lamp (and maybe the ABS lamp), it means that DSC and xDrive have failed.
In this scenario, the brake warning lamp can be red or yellow.
If yellow, it means that electronic brake force distribution (EBV) is still available.

However, in my experience, if those 2 (or 3) go out after shutting the engine down and restarting,
it's just a spurious electronic gremlin.

The brake warning lamp on its own may be a more certain indicator of something amiss.

This is all quite a separate issue from the brake pad warning lamp, and also the parking brake left on forgetfully.
