I had a recycled trans from Bavarian Auto Recycling installed Nov '10 because original trans was slipping in reverse, while forward was fine. Obviously installed with new BMW spec fluid, filter etc. While the trans was out I also had the gasket replaced that was on the rear coolant manifold (on the back of the engine block) because it was weeping ever so slightly and it was much easier to do with trans out.
Original problem only showed symptoms when backing uphill which doesn't happen frequently here in Houston. I replaced before failure and all is back to normal now.
