There are 2 different kinds of versions. One that has to be played in the dash DVD, & 1 version that is played in the HD DVD format. You would need the one for the dash. These 2 versions are not interchangeable.

You don't "Play" a Nav DVD. There is nothing that you do when using the DVD, you simply insert it into the DVD slot on the dash and it displays on the screen. When using an updated DVD go ahead and put it in and turn the car off. The new DVD will need some time to load when you put it in the first time, somewhere around 5 or 10 minutes if memory serves me correctly. Even with the car off you can Eject and Insert the new DVD and just let it sit.

If after giving it some time you are not able to see the map on the right in the split screen showing your current location then you probably have either the wrong Nav Disc image, or a bad DVD burn.

OK, you have that down, but you said in the beginning that you couldn't PLAY it.

From your original post you said you burnt it already, but you want a procedure to burn? I will do my best to make sense of this even though I am not positive I know what you are stumbling on. Sounds like what you should have said is that your DOWNLOADED the Nav DVD.

I assume you downloaded an ISO file, you know this by the end of the file name which is .ISO.

Download a program called IMGBURN, just type that in google, it is free and I have used it for years. If you are Windows7 use BURN4FREE

Once you have an ISO burning program loaded on your PC you can double-click your file and it should come up in that program. If not drag the file over and drop it in the program.

Get an empty DVD, put it in your DVD Burner on your computer. Click on BURN.

Is this what you are looking for?

Burn it as a DVD. I would go with the slowest speed possible just to keep it from possibly failing. Slower is never bad if you have the time.

Burning DVD

I have found that burning sat-nav is slim to no chance of working, especially from a downloaded file. The professional sat-nav system in the 6 series is not like the standard system found in many other BMW models.
Anyway hopefully you will be successful, for my part I tend to follow a year behind and buy the discs that people have upgraded from. The BMW discs yearly upgrade are not that good as so little changes year on year, unlike say Mercedes and other brands, who give really good upgrades.

For what it's worth I downloaded the 2011 DVD Nav torrent and it works fine. I believe I used Toast as my burning Program (MAC) It works great on my 2005 645, but it does not work in my dads 2008 750. Good Luck.

In dash & in the trunk are 2 different NAV programs. They are not interchangeable! I have both a 645 & a 750LI. The disk out of one, will not work on the other.

Good Luck!

The 2001 NAV torrent has east, and west torrent. Can I download it all on one disc or do I have to have 2 seperate ones.

For starters make sure you use good DVDR media. Taiyo Yuden is by far the best, it is worth the effort to find these DVDRs. Verbatim AZO (purple packaging) are the next best. In my opinion everything else is garbage based on the error rates I've seen in media tests. (yes, I am a computer geek too)

Burn at 4x which is fine when doing critical discs like music CDs or nav DVDs. I use IMGBURN on Win7x64 or Nero ver6 on WinXP.

Make sure you have the CCC-Professional version of the ISO which will work for all 2004 to 2008 6ers. You do not want the "Business" or "High" versions of the ISO. Starting in 2009 BMW changed to CIC with the map data stored on hard drive.

still having some problems guys

I have downloaded the 2011 professional BMW navigation torrent, I open the torrent and the file is 2 iso files. EAST, WEST.
I right click on east and select burn to IMGBURN.
I have now tryed to burn 1x, 2x, and 4x with no luck. I put the DVD in the dash while the car is off and come back 10 mins later and theres and error on the navi part od the idrive.
Is there another program thats better than image burn???

Try a different brand dvd disc. I just tried imgburn at 1x and it worked. Hopefully it will keep on working. I had an issue before where it stopped reading after 2 weeks.

For Mac
download "BMW_NAV_2011.1_west.zip.torrent" (Im in CA or east)
Unzip it
After unzip iso file "BMW_NAV_2011.1_west.iso" is created
right click on file (windows mouse)>open with>burn
Insert DVD (i used verbatim dvd+r 4.7gb 16x) and click Burn at 4X speed
When complete, turn key to 2nd position and wait until NAV is on. Eject Nav CD out and inset DVD. Once 2011 DVD is in turn key to off and wait about 5 mins and its ready. Idrive>nav and new map should be open.

I only tried once and had no errors. I now have 49 dvds

Like I said earlier, make sure you use Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim (purple package) DVDs since both of these are known to work with the BMW navigation DVD drive.

If you are still having issues after using the proper blank media then your DVD burner is most likely the issue. Try burning on a different system - for example a desktop if you were using a laptop to burn.

I have a 2005 645ci, it came with an '04 nav disk. I downloaded a 2011 West torrent & burned it with Nero just fine as an iso (2x speed). My first try failed on a DVD+RW. But when I used a DVD-R it worked fine. Put it in, let it load & it's been working ever since. I don't remember the DVD-Rs I used, but I don't believe they were anything special.
