Hi everyone it's me again but this time just a question.
I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago about my paint fading and how to fix it. I finally got a chance to go to a couple of body shops and they all told me the same thing. The clear coat is gone and have to repaint. One of the body shop also told me that I should contact BMW because they have a warranty on the paint I did some gogleing and didn't find too much on this. Then I called BMW NA they said there is a warranty but have to take it to a dealer I called the dealer they said they dont know who will look at it and will find some info and call me back. I am just looking to get some details on this because the more I know the more I can fight it because the dealers always do the same thing deny deny deny. here is a link to my old thread http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...339&highlight= As always thank you for any help I can get. |

BMWNA only act based off the input of dealer. If all else fail, can you get your car-insurance to fix it by paying the comprehensive deductible? |

Dude as many issues as you have with this car, you should seriously consider driving it off a cliff.

The exact same scrateches showed up on my trunk 3 wks ago. I waxed it that weekend and as your video showed, from a far it looked ok but as you came closer the scrateches were still there. I know the clear coat is apparently gone but for a luxury car which is only 7 years old, this is unacceptable. I'm still checking for the paint warranty, all to no avail. I know the anti-rust is 14 years; thats the only long term warranty that I found. I'm as hopefully as you to get a fix because the scratches are beginning to spread from the trunk to the top side of the C-frame to the A-frame, and topside of the front fenders. And just as the video, the sides are still in great condition.

Now, I am curious about this even more.
I know OP bought his car on secondary market, did you own this car since new? If you did, do you park outside, take your car to detail shop or even polish your own car. From experience BMW clear-coat is not as hard as Audi or Benz, but still harder than Japanese cars. |

I have not been following this but my clear coat came off of my car after going through local car wash. Luckily the car wash is going to pay as they suspect that their employee put the power wash too close and caught a paint chip and got underneath . . . But this is first I've had with paint coming off

That sucks big tmie - sorry to hear that. At least BMW took a look at it. Just goes to show that a paint meter might not be a bad thing to have when purchasing a car.

I have the same problem with my 2006 wagon. The clear coat has failed on the roof.
I am currently working with BMW as this was a CPO car, and it should not have passed CPO if the entire roof was "repainted" So far the dealer has been in "stall" mode, but I have bumped it up to BMWNA |

I believe if you have collision insurance on your car that insurance will take care of it. Its the reason if you buy a used or CPO car that they ask you to bring it into their shop and have it photographed to qualify for collision. If you have collision insurance should cover it. Only think they dont' cover is paint damage from acid rain. Then again depends on your covergae plan.

@ sunny 2005 BMW: Did the dealer say if the car was repainted by BMW for the same problem or previous owner took it to there shop of choice. A lot of indy body shops if there not that good won't put the proper amout of clearcoat on.

I had the same issue on my hood and roof and had to get it repainted at an indy shop about a year ago and am now having the same problem on my trunk. Going to contact the dealership and escalate it to BMW NA but doubt it'll do any good.
