I need guidance on how to deal with BMW customer service
Sorry if I'm on the wrong board, but "General BMW" seems about right. I posted before about wanting to find out if there is some way I can have the integrated owner's manual loaded into the iDrive of my 2013 X1. I returned to the dealer when I found that they forgot to load the navigation system, and it was done immediately. I also asked about the lack of integrated owners manual and the possibility of disabling the automatic start/stop function. Nobody at the dealer knew if these things were possible, and after three unreturned phone calls, I went to the dealer who promised to look into it and call me. BMW customer service tells me they don't know, and it is up to the dealer. The dealer tells me only BMW would know. Sooo . . . I've been back and forth, again and again. Since those of you on these boards seem to know the ropes much better than I do, can someone guide me to some resource where I can get an answer to my questions? This is my third new BMW, and I've been fortunate that I've never had any issues before. I suppose I'm glad that my issue is only bad customer service and not a problem with my vehicle. Thanks for any suggestions about how I should proceed to get the answers I want.

Is there another dealer in your area you can go for service? It sounds like who you're working with is a bust.

No salesman is going to be able to answer these types of questions unless they are also a true enthusiast. The service department only knows what BMW tells them. To do things like you wish to do, you will either need to research it yourself or talk to a BMW engineer. Disabling the auto stop/start I believe can be done by "coding". Dealers are not allowed to change the coding of your vehicle so you will need to find an independent shop that can change the coding. There are many defaults that can be changed by "coding".

There is a service bulletin for the automatic start/stop. If you search the forum for it (I'm not sure where on this forum it is), you can download it and take it to the dealership.

The service bulletin for the dealership to code stop start to last user mode, meaning it will retain the setting, i.e. you can leave it off all the time, is here -
