Some purchase questions

I was in the market for a Z3, thinking the Z4 was ugly and out of my pricerange
I've learned otherwise. The body form has really grown on me. Like, a lot

So, I'm torn

Would it make more financial sense to get a 2003/2004 model, with ~90k miles on it for ~$11-12k, or to get a 2006 with ~70k on it for ~$13-14k?

I do prefer the front end's look of the 2006, and it seems to be in better condition, but considering I gave myself a budget of $17k to make it cost the same as my civic over the next few years, is the latter stretching too far?

Is there any difference in reliability between those years?
Does the mileage and age of the latter offset the extra cost of it in terms of less repairs being needed?

Please do NOT request Carfax reports. It is against Carfax TOS and against forum rules.

I am thinking about selling my 2004 Z4, 70,000ish miles, 3.0, automatic, everything is in perfect condition. I have also installed coilovers with camber plates, a cold air intake and just replaced the brakes about 4 months ago with slotted and drilled rotors. I can put it back to stock as well, except the brakes. I also have a spare set of wheels, not BMW but I think they look good on it as well. Let me know if you want to see some pictures, I'm located in Georgia. I was thinking in the $15500 ballpark.

I was in a similar situation earlier this year. Was heart set on a Z3 didn't like the looks of the Z4. However the more I looked at the Z4 the more it grew on me. I ended purchasing a 2003 Z4 with 100K miles on it for $15K imported to canada and on the road. I am now glad I went for the Z4. I appreciate the sexy look of the car and receive many compliments on it. Mechanically the only thing that didn't work was the tilt on the passenger seat which I am planning to fix in the next few weeks and overhaul the cooling system as suggested my many members on this site. I think either way you will be happy my vote is the 2003 and keep some extra cash for a few part replacments.

Having owned both the Z3 & now the Z4. I definitly perfer the Z4, although the Z3 is more of a sports car, the Z-4 is more of a BMW. The cargo capacity on the Z3 was just to small for me & my SO. The interior of the Z4 is more spacious, although for some reason I seemed to have had more headroom in the Z3. Both cars have received compliments, but the Z4 seems to stand out abit more, especially when viewed from the rear. The worst feature in the Z3 is the plastic rear windshield. I have seen many Z3s that look like hell because the rear plastic is cracked & discolored.

My original Z4 was a 2004 and now I have a 2008. I really like the feel of the 2004. I may be the tires, but the 2008 is a bit more polished, a little more composed. ride even with runflats.

almost to0 polished and composed.

If it were me, I would go for the 2003 if it is the 3.0. Otherwise go with the 2006.
