Bluetooth with BMW Assist

I understand that Bluetooth cannot be added on to vehicles with BMW Assist at the present time. However, according to this link (http://bimmerfest.com/forums/attachm...chmentid=26085), the compability issue will be resolved on 9/2004. Can I resolve this by eventually purchasing an adapter kit with my present BMW on 9/2004 or will the issue be resolved in only new BMWs produced on/after 9/2004?
