BMW Hood Emblem

I assume you would just buy them off ebay?

My hood emblem is completely faded and I need a new one.

Whats the easiest way to take them off/put them back on?

Best way is to bring the emblem into the dealer, and let them do it. Not very easy to do yourself.

They pop off of an e36 quite easily with a screw driver. Just wrap the tip with cloth to prevent any damage. There is no glue just two studs that press into holes with plastic bushings to hold it in place.

How much do you think that would cost?

I found emblems on ebay for about $6 bucks.

So if they do pop off easily then I'll probably do it myself.

1. Do NOT buy cheap emblems off eBay, they suck (ask me how I know), buy from a site sponsor since its worth the extra money

2. Use a butter knife wrapped in cloth to gently pry the emblem off. There are two studs on the back of the emblem that go into two small holes in the hood, secured by rubber grommets (don't forget to order those with the emblem)

There are several DIYs for this very simple procedure out there.

I use dental floss double looped and just pull. Just pick up a roundel at bavauto with the two rubber grommets that you'll likely want to replace. You'll have to rip the grommets off with needle nose pliers. They are sometimes fused to the paint after 17 years.

Many ways to get it done. Don't be afraid to pull hard as hell. It won't hurt nothin.

So it's better to get the $26 emblem off bavauto than a $7 one off ebay?

OK, so I'm not typing this on my phone.

Here's is how you can do it:

It has two posts in the back of it that snap into the grommets.

Here is where you can get it:

http://www.ecrater.com/p/9692363/511...roundel-82mm-w

You can scan ebay for more, just put in part number 51148132375. Get the grommets like above if you can. You'll need two emblems/roundels and 4 grommets. That's it.

The OE one above is chrome plated. It's gonna be the easiest and least expensive thing you do.

I should only need one emblem? All I need to do is replace the one on the hood.

But thanks for the video! *thumbs up*

if paper is tight, be gentle when you pop the badge off and the grommets dont come with it so you dont have to buy them. its not as if you need them to be water tight. they are tighter than a fish's date, its not going to fall out

Bavauto.com has them, and they literally just pop in place with your closed hand.

Be aware that for the pre-92 cars, the "old style" emblems have been discontinued. "New style" emblems, with quasi-raised lettering, are available and fit just the same, but do look different up-close.

Those are like those that are on the steering wheel right?
