Euro Delivery

http://g.co/maps/psghu

Hey all festers....planning a european delivery for March 2012, I know its still really early (haven't even ordered car yet - will be a 335 xdrive coupe/6MT/M package/le mans blue/HK/Nav/convenience) but I am obsessed with planning stuff. Will probably order car in the next couple months.
Any thoughts on the route? We have 10-14 days depending on how we schedule the trip.
Anything we should include or leave out?
THanks for any input...
Josh

You may still need winter tires taking that route? Check out the winter tire rental thread above. If you rent them, where do you turn them in?

Good point, I was hoping that late march would be ok but it looks like winter tires are advised through april. Not sure what I"ll do. Probably play it by ear and make winter tire reservations and if the weather is ok not use them...we'll see how that one plays out.
If so, I would change the trip so that instead of ending in paris we would maybe go to Stuttgart and then back to Munich...

In terms of route some general comments:

There is camp of folks here who take the view that ED is ideal for exploring smaller towns/cities and regions that are not as well served by planes and trains. The idea is to take advantage of having a car to go to places you might not be able to very easily without one. I see a lot of value in that view and tended to follow it my ED. The up side is that many of those more out of the way places are in the Alps, which affords many opportunities for great driving in your new bimmer.

Depending on how long you'll be in Europe many folks also suggest avoiding spending each night in a different location. Picking 2-4 bases from which to explore outlying areas and spend 2-3 nights in each is a frequent strategy. It also keeps you from having to load/unload your bags every day.

Others however, try to do the grand tour 15 cities in 10 countries in 15 days (as if Europe is going out of business or something).

It also comes down to your personal travel style and how much experience you have traveling in Europe and what will help make it a memorable trip for you.

In Austria at least (don't know for sure about other countries), regardless of the weather if you don't have winter tires on the car and it's before April 15 and you get into an accident your insurance may be void, so be aware of that.
