I have been getting different warning lights; emissions, transmission fault, power window, a red gear symbol. Service engine soon not always the same and not all the time main problem is sometimes the car won't start and when it does sometimes it will shut off then when it starts it runs great or sometimes it will run but won't shift I'm going crazy I don't know what to do. Has anyone ever heard of or had this problem. Please help

Welcome to Bimmerfest! I've moved your question to the E60 5 series forum, you will get more help in here. Maybe a ground wire? Is your check engine light on? Have you checked the engine codes?

How old is the battery first? Is there any water around the spare tire as it sits in the trunk, or other areas in the car? When did this start happening? Was there a major storm prior to this beginning to happen?

When the battery starts going, it's common for strange things to start happening. But I also wanted to find out if you have seen water in the spare tire well. If so, I would check to see if the electronics that sit inside the spare tire area show any sign of moisture. Check those places first, as they're usually what causes most of the unexplainable electrical gremlins.

No water and the car is garaged and can sit for a month before I'm home to drive it I'm on the road 9 months out of the year which probably not good for it to sit for so long?

Get a battery tender. Makes a difference for long sit times.

Was the battery registered to the car?

If letting it sit for long periods get a battery tender. Works great on my old motorcycle. Same issues apply.
