BMW Smart Phone App

Any possibility of starting and stopping engine from BMW App in near future?

Apparently, the Krauts don't think this is a necessity, and have a term for this--puffing. I'm from Texas, and though I'm considering a 550, my politics and sensibilities don't blend real well with this "holier than thou/we know better" philosophy. I'm between a GMC Denali HD (Duramax) to better pull my boat than what I have now, and the 550, which will make my life easier in downtown parking garages than what I drive now or especially the Denali. Having said all of this, I'm not going to lie, the ability to start my vehicle on a cold night when leaving a football game from my I-phone and have the vehicle turn on the heat and warm up for my arrival is an intriguing feature. The Krauts don't think I need this feature; it doesn't fit with their outlook on the environment...

Probably not, but you didn't say frequency in your post. I assumed it might be if you are at the office and want to switch the car on so someone can move it.

and they categorically said they cannot do engine start only door unlock..
(like in that movie) claiming that this is for my own safety and to avoid theft...

There is a iPhone app available right now to lock and unlock and I think also panic but it doesn't start the car.

I think there is thread on that.,. Just wondering why they are not adding the start feature ford has it and VW also has it

It's called My BMW Remote. According to iTunes, the functions are as follows (for BMW 5 Series built from October 2010):

•Remote Door Lock & Unlock
•Remote Climate Control
•Remote Light Flash: remote control of configurable exterior light functions to locate the vehicle
•Google Local Search: address destination search on the iPhone and transfer to the vehicle navigation system
•Vehicle Finder: display of current vehicle position on a map in the iPhone - for locating a parked car within a radius of up to 1.5 kilometre.

Like I said, this is a US thing. The Germans don't like "puffing"... I was surprised to see VW finally offer it...

In that case we are out of luck. I checked with a knowm authorised dealer for Viper and he said he wouldnt do it and suggested not try it any where.

it seems its not a plug and play in BMW (Basically all geman made) like other brands.
they have to cut and solder wires which would certainly mess up things.

so on a conclusion we can get that feauture only if BMW offers it.
no third party thing here.
